MSC Cruises, one of the world's leading cruise line companies, along with representatives of F.C. Barcelona, A.C. Milan, Real Madrid C.F. and the Indoor Football Association, announced the MSC Cruceros Cup indoor football tournament and Football Theme Cruise. The sporting event is a prelude to the christening of the company's new flagship, MSC Splendida, which will be officially inaugurated on 12 July in Barcelona.

The MSC Cruceros Cup is an indoor football tournament that will be played in the "Palau Blaugrana" on 11 July. The tournament will bring together three of the world's most successful teams (winners of a total of 18 Champions League titles): F.C. Barcelona, which will host the event, A.C. Milan and Real Madrid C.F.

The announcement of the event took place aboard the MSC Fantasia, the most beautiful ship in the world. Joan Laporta, President of F.C. Barcelona, and Pierfrancesco Vago, Chief Executive Officer of MSC Cruises, as well as Franco Baresi, "Il Capitano" of A.C. Milan, and Daniele Massaro, who both played on the unbeatable "rossoneri" team that dazzled Europe in the late 1980s and early 1990s, all participated in this announcement. Massaro is currently the External Relations Manager for A.C. Milan. Ignacio Zoco, a former Real Madrid player and currently a member of the Former Real Madrid Players' Association steering board, and Paco Buyo, captain of the Real Madrid indoor football team, were in attendance as representatives for Real Madrid. Segi Barjuán, the captain of F.C. Barcelona's indoor football team, Emiliano González of MSC Cruises in Spain and Alvaro Garrido, President of the Indoor Football Association, were also present.

The competition will be arranged as a triangular tournament among the three teams, with matches lasting 30 minutes without stopping the clock, and with a 10 minute break between each match. The first game will pit Real Madrid against A.C. Milan, the second will be between F.C. Barcelona and the loser of the first match, and the final match will be between F.C. Barcelona and the winner of the first match.

The proceeds from the MSC Cruceros Cup tournament will be donated in their entirety to the victims of the tragic earthquake that recently struck the Abruzzi region in central Italy.

The day after the tournament, MSC Splendida, a true masterpiece and the new flagship for MSC Cruises, will be officially christened in Barcelona. The flagship will then depart from Barcelona on a Football Theme Cruise in the Mediterranean, calling at Tunis, Malta, Messina (Italy), Civitavecchia (Italy) and Genoa (Italy). Passengers will enjoy 5 days of sports, relaxation and entertainment with activities and events dedicated to football enthusiasts, in addition to the customary, exclusive services offered by MSC Cruises.
