MSC Cruises Has Just Posted the Following:
Two splendid examples of fibreglass cows created by world-famous artists and entirely personalised with the MSC Cruises brand are part of CowParade 2008, the most original of contemporary open air art events, held in Capri from 15 May to 11 July 2008.
The two MSC Cruises "cows" are named MSC Yacht Club and MSC Cruises and will be placed respectively in Via Camerelle and at the lookout point at the top of the funicular, bringing the creativity of these artists directly to Capri residents and the tourists on the island.
The CowParade is an international public art exhibit that began in 1998 from an idea of the Swiss sculptor Pascal Knapp, and, after its success in more than 40 major cities around the world - from the USA to Australia, from Japan to Europe - landed in Capri for the 2008 edition. The 30 cows were welcomed by the Mayors of Capri and Anacapri who, along with the local tourism authority and the Hoteliers' Federation on the Island of Capri, worked devotedly to make it possible to host the event on the "blue island".
At the end of the two-month exhibition, the two MSC Cruises sculptures - like the others in the exhibition - will be auctioned by Sotheby's and the funds raised will be donated to the Fondazione Cannavaro Ferrara for projects to help distressed children who live in conditions of social deprivation and marginalisation throughout Italy.
MSC Cruises brought in international celebrity Belen Rodriguez, the Argentinean model with a Neapolitan heart, to provide additional glamour and hospitality for the event.
With this sponsorship MSC Cruises continues with its commitment to cultural initiatives linked to the Neapolitan areas. "It is our intent to strengthen the deep relationship that links us to this region," said Domenico Pellegrino, Managing Director of MSC Crociere. "Our success began in Naples and it is from here that we want to continue to promote, in synergy with the local region, the marvellous and unique resources that Naples has to offer. For the same reason, on 18 December next, Naples will be the main stage for the inauguration of our new flagship - MSC Fantasia - the largest ever commissioned by a European shipowner".
