From 28 to 31 July MSC Cruises is sponsoring the sailing event of summer 2007: the Tall Ships' Race 2007 Mediterranea. This regatta, honouring a great and ancient maritime tradition, will depart from Alicante, calling into Barcelona and Toulon before arriving in Genoa 28 July 2007.

Already sponsors of "Shosholoza" that is participating in the Louis Vuitton Cup and co-sponsor of Alinghi, the contenders in this year's 32nd America's Cup, MSC Cruises reaffirms its maritime tradition and continued support of maritime values in this historic and prestigious event.

The regatta attracts 40 ships which will remain in Genoa's Porto Antico up to 31 July 2007. Thirteen of these are part of the ‘A class' - ships over 50 metres. These artistic sailing ships, evoking images of adventure and pirates on the high seas, are crewed by 3,000 young people aged 16 to 25 from various part of the world. They will participate in this extraordinary event and related activities. During the four days Genoa will be a theatre for the Tall Ship Night and the Pesto World Championships: visitors can participate in the golf tournament on the water, visit the European Markets, and watch tango exhibitions and synchronized swimming. These are just some of the events that will take place in Genoa and reflect the spirit of regatta with its friendly ambiance and passion for those who love to sail.

"MSC Cruises has an affinity with the Tall Ships races" said Domenico Pellegrino, Managing Director for MSC Crociere, "as they represent the values upon which our company was founded: love of the sea, solidarity and teamwork. It is not surprising that we often sponsor and support major events such as football, sailing and minor sports not represented by national federations. For the sailing world particularly we have sponsored Shosholoza, the South African sailing boat that has taken part in the Louis Vuitton Cup."

Shosholoza, with its South African team and Captain Sarno, will be present in Genoa from 28 to 31 July at the Mediterranean Tall Ships' Races 2007. She will arrive at Genoa's Porto Antico to participate in the festivities for the grand Genoese weekend.

"This sponsorship," added Domenico Pellegrino, "consolidates the rapport and partnership between MSC Cruises and Genoa - the Ligurian capital is in fact the historic home port for MSC Cruises. It is from this port that all our ships depart and arrive covering all our destinations. It was from Genoa that MSC Cruises began to cruise in 2005 during the winter season and year after year has stationed bigger and bigger ships. For winter 2007/2008 two of the largest ships - MSC Musica and MSC Orchestra, the newest addition to the fleet - will depart from Genoa for 11-night cruises to both the eastern and western Mediterranean."
