This dream will become a reality in December 2008, when MSC Fantasia - the newest addition to the MSC Cruises fleet - will be christened. This giant of the seas weighs 133,500 tonnes and will be six timesas high as the Tower of Pisa, nine metrestaller than the Eiffel Tower and also as tall as a 23-storey building. She will represent a veritable floating microcosm with ample space dedicated to well-being.
The MSC Aurea Spa will be an authentic Balinese wellness centre offering innovative treatments given under strict medical supervision. Located on deck 14, it will occupy 1,500 square metressubdivided into specific areas including the thalassotherapy room, thermal area, gymnasium and relaxation area. Each area has been designed to offer passengers the best well-being care from tasteful furnishings to precious mosaics in tones of bronze and gold and includes exotic ornamental plants and perfumed essential oils.
The thalassotherapy room will have three ample treatment cabins, each 20 square metres and with a relaxing ocean view. It is in this area that the Balinese massages - the signature treatments of the MSC Aurea Spa - will take place. The broad choice of treatments will include reflexology, lava stones and infra-red massage, cranial massage, shiatsu as well as special relaxing treatments to deal with stress - all carried out by experts from the island of Bali.
The thalassotherapy room will also house the latest generation of Q-Age kit, offering a classical Scandinavian-style sauna, an infra-red sauna, a steam bath, thalassotherapy and a Vichy shower - all the right treatments needed to restore the body's energy. In the same area three advanced technologies are also on offer under strict medical supervision: Q-Frequency to combat the slackening of muscle tone in both face and body (and excellent results are achieved for those with wrinkles); Mya Advance, the non-surgical alternative to liposculpture and a perfect antidote for body shape as well as treating specific areas suffering from stubborn fatty deposits; and Active-Press, for lymphatic drainage.
The thermal area consists of 150 square metres of sparkling mosaics and will have four saunas heated to 80 degrees Celsius as well as 2 turkish baths heated to 45 degrees. After a relaxing Balinese massage, the thermarium will be the best way to eliminate toxins from the body.
Last, but by no means least, at 415 square metres, the Gymnasium is fitted with the latest equipment and adapted for dance lessons. The relaxation area has very comfortable loungers and a huge window to enjoy the views.
Finally, before enjoying the remainder of the vacation, a must-do is a visit to the MSC Aurea Spa hairdressers and the bar dedicated to healthy living, where many fruit and vegetable juices will be freshly made.
MSC Fantasia, the largest ship commissioned by a European shipowner, will be christened in Naples on 18 December 2008 by the company's godmother, Sophia Loren. For the 2008/2009 winter season, MSC Fantasia will be based in the port of Genoa and will offer two exciting festive cruises. The first will be the Christmas cruise, which departs 20 December 2008 for eight nights, visiting Greece and Egypt. The second - a New Year's Eve cruise - will depart 28 December 2008, also for eight nights, calling into Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar.
Then, starting on 5 January through to 1 March 2009, MSC Fantasia will be operating
11-night cruises from Genoa and Civitavecchia to discover the treasures of Spain, Gibraltar, Madeira and the Canary Islands.
