MSC Cruises Has Just Posted the Following:

On 18 October at Aker Yards France the aft section of MSC Magnifica, the fourth ship in the Musica class, was put into place in the dry dock. The aft panel, which constitutes part of the double base of the hull of the ship, has been fitted out completely with water pipes, electrical cables, air conditioning tubes and steam piping for the heating. This panel weighs 126 tonnes, is 11.31 metreslong and 16.1 metreswide. Completion of this unit involved 10 specialized labourers, and placing it called for the supervision of five technical experts, all of whom are specialists in this field.

MSC Magnifica will be the fourth ship in the Musica class and the twelfth wonder of the MSC Cruises fleet. Its will be 294 metreslong, 50 metreshigh and 32 metreswide and have a total of 1,275 cabins, 80% of which will be external and 65% of which will have a balcony. The ship will also have more than 22,000 square metresof public space with a pool area, the Aurea Spa wellbeing centre measuring 1,500 square metres, restaurants, a thematic children's play area, a theatre and all that is needed to provide guests with a memorable sea cruise.

At the Aker Yards in St. Nazaire, France, three ships in the MSC fleet are currently under construction.

MSC Poesia, the third vessel in the Musica class, is due to be delivered on 5 April 2008. This will be followed by MSC Fantasia (December 2008) and MSC Splendida (June 2009), the latter two being 133,500 tonnes grt each. They are the largest ships to be commissioned by a European shipowner. They will also introduce a new concept of VIP cruising with exclusive areas and a personalized butler service.

A total of eight ships in the MSC Cruises fleet will have been built at the Aker Yards between 2003 and 2010, in three different classes: the 60,000-tonne Lirica class, the 90,000-tonne Musica class and the 133,500-tonne Fantasia class.
