With its exceptional variety of shops, restaurants, bars, sports and fitness facilities, swimming pools and spa treatments, MSC Splendida is like a floating island waiting to be explored, offering a world of choice and pleasure, whether you're looking for active leisure or hedonistic relaxation.

But there's another aspect to MSC Splendida that's equally exceptional and varied. And that's the outstanding entertainment on board, with custom facilities that have been designed in right from the very beginning to create a totally unforgettable experience.

Children get an extraordinary themed play centre that creates their very own North Pole, covering a full 195 square metres complete with fluffy polar bears and seals, an igloo and explorer's equipment with tent. There's even a library and a mesmerising fibre optic Northern Lights display that pulsates across the ceiling, tingeing the soft blocks of pack ice which extend across a floating glass wall to the children's pool area outside. This pool forms a perfect contrast to the 150 lively fountains, whirlpools and waterfalls of the Acqua Park main pool area - another fabulous favourite that keeps kids absorbed for hours. What's more, there are three separate clubs on board - mini, junior and teen - making it easy for children to break the ice, whatever their age.

Teens love the sports centres, including an amazing squash court, as well as the glorious Teen Toboga waterfall slide created especially for them. Then there's a whole Virtual World to satisfy today's inexhaustible appetite for gaming, with arcade and video games of all kinds, from classic pinball to the latest virtual reality games, interactive desktops and internet stations. Completing the picture, there's a full-size electronic periscope for teens to look in on their friends in the trendy I Graffiti disco with its urban style design. Here multicoloured graffiti, atmospheric lighting, sinuous casual couches and scattered poufs surround dance and karaoke areas, all served by vending machines for snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.

Bridging the gap between the sports world and virtual world, there are 114 Nintendo Wii consoles on board, plus 4 complete Wii Fit stations with balance boards in the fitness centre. They're great fun for families even when the parents have no gaming experience at all, offering all the most popular games plus a whole range of competitions on a poolside mega-screen outside. The Virtual World area takes everyone even deeper into virtual reality with an astonishing and totally involving Formula 1 Simulator and 4D cinema.

Back in the real world, there's a host of organised activities for adults and children, from arts and crafts courses to tai chi and merengue dancing, not to mention table football tournaments and culture quizzes.

No cruise ship would be complete without the traditional forms of live entertainment everyone so enjoys, and MSC Splendida excels here as well, with a wide array of performers in the bars and magnificent Strand Theatre, its 1,603 seats providing unobstructed views of musicians, magicians, dancing troupes and variety shows from all over the world. Highlights this autumn include a USA extravaganza with giant Statue of Liberty and a Tango Argentina show that enraptures with its passionate Latin American rhythms.

An equally big hit with adults who want to hit the jackpot is of course the Royal Palm casino. Alternatively - for an altogether cooler approach to Lady Luck - you can try your hand in the Poker Room, maybe even entering a Burraco tournament and then perhaps retiring to celebrate in the classic Cigar Lounge.

More reflective individuals can explore very different wheels of fate in the library and cyber-library, while the exuberant can dance the night away to the pulsating lights and fluid curves of the 500 square meters Club 33 disco.

Out on deck, Shuffleboard is another quiet classic for the adults, just as the adults-only Zen area and pool is perfect for those who want to relax in total peace and comfort.

Bringing everyone together as a perfect meeting place for friends young, old and new, there's the Sports Bar. At its heart you'll find a stunning mini-bowling alley with an innovative surface that allows anyone to play without special shoes. It's carefully designed so that even the size of the bowls is manageable for children but still presents a challenge to adults. Above it, two large LCD screens offer interactive videogame animations with a choice of Ten Pin Tour and Turkey Shoot, adding to the fun for kids and big kids alike.

All in all, one thing's for sure: you'll never run out of things to enjoy when you're on MSC Splendida!
