Conversation at my sister's house at 9am Christmas morning...

"Mom, my stomach really hurts bad, and I don't feel so good."

"Hmmm, you feel like you have a fever. Where does it hurt exactly?"

"Down here, and on my side (rubbing near her right hip)."

Dammit. Christmas morning!!! Call the doctor, bundle her up, drive to the med center.

Doctor agrees it sure sounds and seems like her appendix, sends her to the ER.

Insert IV, give her contrast stuff to drink, have CT scan in one hour.

Wait... wait... wait... wait...

Have CT scan at 4:30pm.

I got the last call at 5:30... yes, she has appendicitis, she is being transferred to another hospital, they haven't yet decided to operate tonight or tomorrow morning.

She could not WAIT to call my daughter and tell her she was in an ambulance, and how cool it was! MY DD was excited for her. (Wanna-Be-Nurses... go figure.)

Poor baby... a Christmas my niece or my sister won't forget.

That is really a Christmas to remember, but not one that I would want to go through! Hoping everything goes well with her surgery.

A ride in an ambulance is cool???? At least she knows she won't have to deal with appendicitis next year.

UPDATE --- UPDATE --- UPDATE --- UPDATE --- UPDATE

My sister says that when they got to the new hospital, the surgeons looked at the scan and they feel it's NOT appendicitis, but that she is extremely constipated!

They are keeping her in the hospital tonight, and will treat it as constipation, and see how she does tomorrow. If there are no "movements" in the right direction, they'll remove her appendix!

I hope everything works out. Constipation is still better than surgery.
I'll check back tomorrow to see if you have more news.

I haven't heard from my sister yet, but my BIL says she did have a movement, but she is still in pain. The doctor hasn't seen her this morning yet.

I have heard from quite a few friends who say this very same thing happened to them, and they were able to go home after they finally set things in motion. One says she was sent home with an enema, and returned because of the intense pain. She was rushed into surgery by a different doctor and they got her appendix out just before it burst. She said the pain was worse than giving birth to her 11 lb. 24" long son! OUCH!

I'll update when I hear something more.
