We arrived @ 11:30 @ the pier, the ramp was closed to traffic except to people parking for the week. So there was no problem to unload and park for $154.00 cash.
Embarkation: We signed a sars sheet before we entered the waiting corral. At 12:00, we went through the security checkpoint. Be sure you fill out a Bahamas card for every person in your party even if they are minors. Yes we filled a card out for our two year old. We checked in and were on the ship by 12:45 pm.
Checked out the room 5632 (deck 5 aft) plenty of storage for us. We did here noise in this room originating from the lower deck.
Went to muster drill needed life jackets for kids, which the room steward brought us after the drill.
The weather was not as good as we hoped for the week, but we survived being on this beauty of a ship. The service was not as good as past “traditional†cruises that we have sailed on. The Venetian Dining room was most fitting to our taste. The view from the large windows located in the back of the dinning room, were great as you sailed away from Miami and Nassau.
We saw ever show in the Stardust Theater and they were fantastic. Bollywood is the best show of the week (try to sit in the middle section). After the shows, we found the Star bar to be most relaxing with a personable pianist (her music lulled our children to dreamland).
We did check out the kids club, but they would not allow us to participate with our children in the play area. We took this vacation to spend time with our children, so we did not use the center. I found the teen club to be empty most of the time and used that as a playroom with the toys/games we brought from home.
The only annoyances we had were a lack of on board activities and the overall service was menial in comparison to past traditional cruises. Service-ended associates tend to go the extra mile when they know that their performance directly reflects the amount of gratuity. Not the case with “Freestyle Tippingâ€Â.
We did not book any shore excursions through NCL. We rented a car through Avis in Cape Canaveral, took a taxi to South Beach in Miami ($15 each way), and took a water taxi to Paradise Island in the Bahamas ($6 pp round trip, kids went free). We were not allowed onto Stirrup Cays due to rough seas.
The ship does rock. I don’t believe that the Atlantic Ocean and top speed sailing mix well. We saw many vacationers sporting wristbands and/or ear patches. The wife needed Dramamine on the Stirrup Cays day at sea.
End note:
Freestyle is not for all.
Enjoy the ship for what she is, not the service provided, she is truly beautiful!
