Has anyone taken this tour? How is it?...how long are you on horseback? Should we take this or stick to snorkeling?

Thanks

Keep it mind that if you are going in hot weather it will be really hot. Pants are advised and the horses give off body heat.

If you have any love for horses whatsoever, you will NOT go on this tour! I was appalled at the physical condition these poor horses were in; open sores, ribs showing, massive bug bites, etc... If this tour were under American jurisdiction, they'd be shut down and would face animal neglect charges. Unfortunately, most of the people on the tour were folks who obviously knew very little about horses, and didn't seem to care or notice the condition they were in. When we went, it had rained heavily and the grounds were soaked and some of these people were slapping their horses with the reins to make them run, even though they were having to walk in mud about 6" deep. I wrote to Carnival after our cruise and asked them to either cancel that particular tour and find a replacement horse operation, or to tell the ranch owners that they would drop them if the horses did not begin getting adequate food and medical attention. I never heard back from them, so I can't vouch for their condition now, but in 2001 it was heartbreaking. My advice: Stick to snorkeling!

And by the way, the "Mayan Ruins" looked less than authentic.
