Took NCL - Dawn on a trip to the bahamas.. Nassau was cancelled because of problems with the ships propeller. They only compensated the passengers 200.00 per state room. NO MATTER HOW MANY YOU HAD IN IT. Alot of unhappy passengers. You set out to see the bahamas , atlantis , swim with the dolphins, ect. Your once in a life time trip for some and they cancelled it because they had mechanical problems again. I think the ship hit something while pulling in to one of the ports.. BOOOOOOO
NEVER again NCL..

I can understand your frustration at not being about to go to a port you wanted to go to because of mechanical problems. However, once a mechanical problem developes, what is the cruise line to do? The cruise ticket / contract makes it clear that the cruise line can change its itinerary. At least the cruise line offered you something. This is better then what happens to an airplane when it has mechanical problems. Then you get burial expenses. Which would you rather have?

If the ship had gone to the Bahamas and was not able to return on time, that would have been a bigger problem for everyone who did not drive to the port (in other words, had a plane to catch). Most people buy the cheapest ticket they can (read non-refundable). The airline will not care why the person missed the plane. The person did and that person is SOL. On top of this, there are another 2000 people at the dock expecting the ship to be on time. Given this, missing a port is better than arriving late.

However, you are entitled to a refund of your port fees / taxes. Contact NCL and request a refund of the port fees / taxes.

WOW!! $200 is an EXCELLENT compensation!! We just did GRAND PRINCESS in March and our stop in Belize was cancelled due to a fall a passenger took on deck and needed to be helicoptered off the ship. This was a very big family trip for us, my wondeful father in law has pancreatic cancer and we don't know if we will be cruising again together as a family, but all Princess did was refulnd our $30.00 port charges to Belize! Congratulations on the wonderful compensation!! You were very fortunate!

And the Dawn is one of NCL's newest ships, only a couple of years old. Frankly, its a shame you didn't get to go to Nassau, but NCL did provide compensation. There are a number of ships from different lines that are suffering mechanical failure of some sort or another too, its not just NCL. They run these ships hard, over a two year period they barely see 2 or 3 weeks in drydock, which is a very high percentage of time being on line, higher than most power plants. Yes, they can and do fix things at sea, but it takes a while for the spare parts to arrive, up to a couple of months. Hopefully the rest of the cruise was wonderful, and you'll sail with NCL again. Don't let the little things get to you that are beyond the control of the cruise lines. I'm sure you maintain your car as best as you can, and still mechanical problems crop up.

I have been on cruises during the hurricane season, and instead of doing a Western Caribbean cruise we did an eastern Caribbean cruise. I didn't get to go to any of the ports I wished to go to, but despite the difficulties, had a wonderful cruise anyway..... You can too....

I agree, $200 was great. We got bumped from Jamaica on an RCCL and all we got was open bar for 2 hours. Sound great until you realize the entire ship is now in line at the bars and you can only get one drink in 2 hours.

Missed Cozumel on Princess and missed Jamaica on RCI. We would have loved the $200 per cabin comp. We still had a good time and made the best of it. Two years ago we were to leave Philadelphia on the Horizon for Bermuda but ended up in New England and Canada instead due to a Hurricaine,.
We were disappolinted we didn't go to Bermuda but enjoyed the cruise anyway.
Perhaps you will get to Nassau on your next cruise. I know you were looking forward to it.

As any good travel agent would tell you, don't plan your cruise based on one port of call. A ship is a mode of transportation, and traveling among the weather. The cruise lines have the cruise contract for a reason... It is very clear they may have to alter the course for reasons such as mechanical issues, weather, safety, health emergencies, etc.

I think NCL did a very gracious thing by offering you $200, they didn't cut your vacation short, I'm sure they provided all the services expected onboard the ship. Few cruise lines, even the very top of the line, offer such compensation for something that is totally acceptable.

We had the same thing Happen on NCL majesty. One of the dock lines got wrapped in the prop and we were running on only 1 engine for the day at sea. They finally had to stop the ship in the middle of the ocean and send down divers to cut it loose. What is it with NCL and stuff getting stuck in the propellers??
