My husband and I are on the Explorer of the Seas on the Dec. 12th sailing. We have all of our excursions figured out except Nassau. We want to spend all of our time in the water and are not interested in history or island tours. We love to snorkel and be beach bums. We were planning on doing the Stingray excursion, but I have heard nothing but bad things about it. I have heard that it closes down a lot and that the water is always cloudy because of the bad weather. Is this true? Is this really a bad excursion? Anyone have any good experiences with this excursion?

Does anyone have any good excursion or beach advice for Nassau? I can't seem to find much on the interenet, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Another snorkel addict here...good for you...Explorer is a great ship and you'll love her!!

In St Maarten...try the trip over to St. John...GREAT water there.

In St. Thomas head for Megans Bay...beautiul!!

In Nassau...Blue Lagoon Island....dolphins are fun, but a little spendy.

Happy Cruising,

Michael

I can't wait! I am entirely too excited and it is way too early to be! I am going to drive myself crazy for the next five months.

Thanks for the ideas. Now we just have to figure out which place to go. We are heading to Oreint Beach for some beach bumming, parasailing and/or jet skiiing in St. Maarten. Then we are going scuba diving at Coki Beach in St. Thomas. Then I think we are hanging out at a beach in San Juan (forget the name) where we plan on doing anything we didn't do in St. Maarten (we have to try parasailing and rent jet skis while we are in the caribbean, it's a MUST!!).

I will have to check out both of your ideas for Nassau! But still looking for anyone else's ideas too! The more the merrier! :) Thanks again!

Stuart's Cove was the best snorkel experience I've ever had. It's a five and one-half hour trip, so be sure it fits your schedule. We were on Holland America and were able to book Stuart's Cove thru the ship's excursion office. You may have to book independently. Just e-mail them your ship's dock times and they'll let you know if it will work.

Nassau: “Snorkel Bahamas Adventure†is a 5-½ hour trip operated by Stuart’s Cove. On a previous excursion I went on the impressive Athol Island snorkel. This Stuart’s Cove outing surpassed all of my previous experiences, including Athol Island. The boat trip is @ three hours, and visits Schoolhouse Reef, the spectacular Golden Key Reef and finally a “swim with the sharks†at ‘The Wreck of the Bahama Mama’. I have never before witnessed such a number and variety of fish as at Golden Key. There are never-ending fish, large and small, singly and in large schools. The floor is decorated with huge, magnificent coral formations of all shapes and sizes. While there, a shark cruised past our group. He obviously thought this was his ocean and didn’t know, nor care, that we weren’t scheduled for a shark encounter until after Golden Key. Surprisingly, getting in with a dozen or so sharks is not frightening. I suspect we were too caught up with their grace and magnificence to be scared. The fact that the boat captain hadn’t lost a diver in twelve years was also encouraging. This is a five star, gold medallion, prime trip, not to be missed!

I know all about Stuart's Cove snorkeling, and am unbelievably bummed out about it!!! Unfortunately our times won't work, which really stinks because they are the first place I tried. Not to mention that I LOVE sharks! I have been facinated with them since I was a little girl. So, this was right up my alley. Unfortunately, they say that our times just won't work because we would be cutting it too close. :( Thanks for the advice though!!
