Nassau on your own?

I was in Nassau many many years ago and didn't take any of the ships tours. It was 4 girls and we had a great time.

This time it's myself, my husband, 2 kids (ages 6 and 9), my mother and mother inlaw

What would you suggest that we can explore on our own?

You can walk straight to teh shopping areas right off the cruise ship dock. From there you can take a taxi (about $10 one way) to the Atlantis Hotel over on Paradise Island, which is a tourist destination itself. There is a casino, an underground aquarium. You've seen this hotel on TV ads. They are supposed to charge you about $25 to walk through the aquarium, which is really neat but not worth the price. But when we were there we walked right in and there was no-one taking money. I've heard other people have had the same experience.

There are also snorkel tours available and the submarine ride. You can arrange these on the cruise ship or probably find information about them on the web. Good luck.
