Wondering if anyone has done the "Pirates of Nassau & Historical Highlights Tour" as a shore excursion in Nassau?

And if so, was it worth your time and would you recommend it?

Or would you recommend any of the other shore excursions in Nassau?

We are cruising April 2nd, 2005 on Carnival Glory.

Any advice or info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kim

Hi Kim! Welcome to the boards. I went to the Bahamas in 2003 and had a wonderful time. I did not do the shore excursion, that you mentioned, but we did do the Blue Lagoon excursion. We enjoyed a day over on the beach, and relaxed in hamocks...it was a great day!! In Freeport we did the Glass Bottom boat, that is something that I personally wouldn't reconmend, it wasn't what any of us was expecting. I hope you have a great time on your cruise. I'm sailing there again in October :) Take care!

Monica,

Thanks for your input and advice... I really appreciate it.
I've been to Nassau before (several years ago), but the rest of my group have not been there yet. We have been looking for something different and fun to do there. Just looking into all of our options.
We can't wait.
It's always a good thing to have a cruise booked... enjoy your's in October... it will be here before you know it.

Thanks again,
Kim

Kim-
I did the Pirates of Nassau excursion in Sept. 2003 and to me....it wasn't all that worth it. I thought it was going to be something more interesting, but it was a lot of manequins and stuff like that. The thing that I think was the most interesting was probably the last room that you go through where they've got pirate stuff like swords, etc. It probably took us maybe a half hour to go through the whole thing. I would say if you were only going to be in Nassau for a few hours and didn't really have time to do a long excursion it would be ok, but in my opinion I would look for something else. Maybe you could think about going over to Paradise Island and go through Atlantis or go on a snorkeling excursion....just a couple suggestions as I probably would not do the Pirate excursion again. I'll be going back to Nassau April 15th so I need to start looking at things to do myself!

Thanks Robin!!!
I'm so glad to hear from someone who actually done this tour.
Yes, we only have a few hours in port in Nassau this time... so we booked this tour.
I've heard some great things about Atlantis... so we may check into that also.

Enjoy your visit to Nassau in April and Thanks again for your information and advice... it is much appreciated.

Hi Kim! I did the Pirates and Highlights tour and was so-so about it. To me it made the Bahama's seem very dirty because you don't really go anywhere developed on this tour. I understand now that Paradise Island is a lot nicer, but it my opinion this tour did no justice to my image of the Bahama's. On this tour they took us to the "zoo" and had a flamingo show. Basically the flamingos run and stop when they tell them to. It was cute, but took about 1/2 an hour and when you only have a few hours, time is precious. If you can, make sure your guests see the nice parts of the bahama's too and not just what is on this tour.

Kim, we have never done the Pirates excursion, but we did do the Historic Harbor Cruise & Atlantis Beach Break . It was a little pricey but worth the money. We hope to do it again ithis summer with our kids (they are 20 and 22 yrs old). Terri

If your Glory itinerary is the same as ours you will be in Nassau less than 5 hours. When I return I would be happy to let you know what we did while there for that short amount of time.

Thanks Erinm & Terrimcc!!! I really appreciate your input on this. We have already booked the "Pirates" excursion... so we are hoping that it will be at least a bit entertaining. (We booked before I had gotten any replies.) I may not have booked it after reading everyone's replies... but we will make the best of it.

H2O babe... Yes, we will be in Nassau only a few hours too... so I'd love to hear what you find to do in Nassau. Enjoy your cruise... and let me know what you think of everything when you return.

Thanks all...
Kim

Camelia,

I think that is what we will end up doing. I've heard so many great things about Atlantis that we cancelled our "Pirates" tour and are just going to go out on our own and check out Atlantis and maybe the beach.

Thanks for your input.

Hi,
Great that you cancelled it! I was in Nassau last June and the water is GORGEOUS. I had from many many people the pirate tour was NOT GOOD.

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah... I haven't heard many good things said about the "Pirates" tour either. And Atlantis is getting rave reviews from everywhere. So I think that we are on the right track with just going out on our own to do what we want once we get there.

Has anyone done the dolphin encounter? We're there from 7:00 AM to 1 AM, so have lots of time, but the excursions are so pricey that we may only pick one and then explore on our own. Is it worth it to pay to explore Atlantis, or is walking around on your own enough?

Thanks!

Andrea - set sail in 12 days on RCI Sovereign of the Seas!!!

I stayed in the Bahamas for Spring break about 5 years ago. I did the Dolphin Encounter and it was just okay. You get in waist deep water with the dolphin. I would recommmend the Dolphin Swim over this, which of course costs more money,

Thanks for the input.! My mom is the one who wants to do it, and she's in her 70's. I don't think we'd send her out to swim with them, but she might like petting them in the waist deep water. Personally, I'll be happy just to have a vacation no matter what we do! :)

For her age, that would be perfect. They take a pictire of the dolphin kissing your cheek. She would probably really like that.
