NCL America Jobs in Hawaii

NCL AMERICA is the fifth largest employer in Hawaii now. That`s just counting the direct jobs for the cruise line. There must be hundreds or thousands more indirectly employed as a result of their presence there.
I wonder what will happen to those jobs if NCL AMERICA fails - or if they decide to reflag and hire foreign workers??

Gaigin,

I think many of us better pray the company makes it instead of down deep hoping it doesn't. I do beleive there are those out there on other websites that really don't want to see NOLA last. I know some had a bad or worse than bad experience, I feel for them. I also know we, as Americans, sometimes are spoiled and expect more than we have a right to from many situations and we are accustom to the foreign crews who are priceless in many ways. I, for one, am praying that this venture is successful. NMNita

One thing is for sure, NCL gambled a lot of money on NCLAmerica, the Hawaiian operations. A billion dollars and three ships. We all want to cruise Hawaii without wasting 3 days visiting Fanning Island. We all want to cruise in an almost new ship. With the Pride of Aloha booked, there is no doubt about it.... Two of the next three ships under construction will be cruising Hawaii.

It would have been nice if the Pride of Aloha was able to keep its well trained and experienced staff from the Norwegian Sky. Instead, she is cruising with a green crew without the experienced and well trained management NCL counted on, because of INS difficulties. Its also difficult to move well trained and experienced personnel over from other ships, as most of them are foreigners... A catch 22 situation...

However, NCL has been agressively hiring as many hotel type employees it can, and not just from the Hawaiian area, but from all over the country... Americans, rightfully so, expect more pay, especially when employed on a ship far from their love ones and family... A sailor's life is a lonely life...

Yes, Americans can serve and work as hard as anyone... especially when well managed. In this case it will take time to develop the American managers for the American flagged ships...

But as cruisers, we really don't care if the crew is American.... All we want is service.....and value for our money spent.....
