Going Nov. 2nd with daughter and 3 grandkids. If you have taken the shuttle bus how much time do you have in disney, or are we better off renting a car. How long is the drive. What time do you arrive at port and when do you have to be back on ship.

Check the NCL site, I believe starting with the 8/24 sailing the ship will be leaving Canaveral at 8 p.m.

We are planning to go to Universal Studios on the 11/2 Dawn sailing as well, and we're wrestling with the same decision -- book through the ship and have less time w/ only 1 park or book on our own and have a 2-park pass. Any advice on how to go about booking on our own would be a big help.

Hi all!

I recently booked NCL Dawn for my April 2004 vacation with my children. I am very interested in hearing how your excursions worked out! Please post and review after you return!!!!!

THANKS!

Avis (I think) has a rental facility at one of the local hotels in Pt. Canaveral. They shuttle you from the ship to the car rental and then it's about an hour drive to Orlando.

If they take you to the Travel and Transportation Center, you can buy Epcot tickets there and take monorail to Epcot without having to go to MK. Just allow more time to return and pick up return shuttle. I don't think they will take you to the entrance to the MK, but if they do, just go to the left and get the monorail to TTC and then to Epcot.

Hi, We are also Sailing on the Norwegian Dawn on November 2nd. We have two children. I haven't decided if it would be worth rushing to Disney for the Day. I find there is way too much to do there and you get really really tired.
It will be fun for you if you do not have too many expectations to do alot - otherwise you will be really wiped.
Would love to here from you. What deck are you on? We are on the 11th.

We are taking the shuttle so that we go right to the gate at disney and do not have to look for parking. Also if you rent a car the car rental places close early, so what you have to do is take a taxi from where you drop the car off to get back to the ship. Also going nov. 2nd with 3 kids. I feel that is enough time for them. I am looking for a car rental in port of miami. We want to go to the fountainblue which has a water park, and it is very expensive for 5 people with the cruise line.

Linnie, I sailed the Dawn on 8/31. Disembarkment started about 9:00am and the ship left port at 10:00pm (sounds like it's now earlier). There were approximately 40 'fifty passenger coach bus' shuttles that went to the Orlando attractions. The cost was $28 per person. If you purchase tickets from NCL you can go right into the park without waiting on ticket lines. So, as you say, you won't have to park a rental (or pay for parking), and the shuttle lets you manage your time as you decide. It's the painless alternative.

The rental car option can save you big bucks. The drawback is that the rental facilities close early; However they do provide for late returns with a key 'dropoff' (several passengers did not like this option). You also have to make your way back to the ship. But if the ship now sails at 6:30pm (as mentioned above) the shuttle wouldn't buy you much time in the latter part of the day.

Port Miami rental... there are no rental facilities at the port. Although we had a confirmed reservation with Thrifty/Dollar, they never picked us up as they promised. My wife waisted almost an hour on the phone with them. Eventually we took a cab to South Beach @ $15 each way (similar to the cost of the rental, and painless). The Fontainbleu will probably be a few bucks more.
