Going to do the Gem in the Fall. Is there a need to get Euros or do they accept the US dollar?

You don't need cash to pay for expenses aboard NCL ships. Use your credit or debit cards, or travel checks to pay your bill at the end of your cruise. NCL uses America dollars for all charges.

The only cash you need is for expenses ashore in all your ports. And most places ashore will accept credit cards today.

On shore was what I was referring to and I should have stated that in the post.

You won't find many places that will accept the dollar, except for banks. For incidental purchases, tips, etc. ashore your best bet is to get Euros from an ATM. Stores and restaurants will generally accept Visa or MC.

We purchased a "tip pack" from AAA before leaving. It was about 40 euros in coins and small bills. But we still had to hit an ATM in Naples.

We cruised on the Gem in the Med last October, from Dover to Barcelona. It was fantastic.
