Hi all cruising NCL - I finally got curious enough to call the NCL 800 number for some questions that I wasn't finding answers to anywhere, and wanted to share just in case you have the same questions.
#1 - it says in the FAQs that you can cash travelers checks at the front desk. However it says that only some of the ships have local currency exchange. Well I called yesterday and was told that all of their ships now also have currency exchange onboard. I was concerned about this because we are going to Mexico and, although I know that most places on shore will take American $ and cc, I didn't want to take the chance of getting a poor exchange rate, if none any at all. On one visit to Cancun I was actually told that they would take American $ at face value, meaning one $ to one Peso. Yikes! No thanks! So I was glad to hear that we can go on shore with some local currency, just in case.
#2 - We booked our own air portion and are flying into LAX. On various cruises we have taken the transfers, and on others we have used taxis from airport to pier. However, from what I have been hearing, LAX is a zoo. So we are leaning more towards the transfers but I wanted to make sure that wasn't going to be even more confusing. Well I was told by NCL to book your transfers with your T.A. and have them provide NCL with your flight information. In turn, NCL will post cruise representatives in the luggage claim area upon your arrival. This was a big load off my mind, will really simplify the process.
So I hope this info helps some of you newer cruisers, or at least those new to NCL.
