Sailing on the Jewel 11/20. Can anyone tell me which of the restaurants have an extra charge. The brochure says 7 out of 10 restaurants are included in the cruise fare.

thanks, nonna

Jewel will feature 10 restaurants including NCL's signature Cagney's Steak House, Blue Lagoon and Le Bistro as well as Tango's (Latin), Chin Chin (Asian) and Mama's Italian Kitchen.

I believe the three restarurants that charge extra are Cagney's Steak House, Le Bistro and Chin Chin. I am positive about Cagney's, pretty sure about Le Bistro and the only one I have any doubts about is Chin Chin.

The Norwegian Jewel starts sailing late in August. Then in early Sept does a trans-Atlantic. Here is some info I found ...

Norwegian Jewel - Ship Description

Purpose-built for Freestyle Cruising, Norwegian Jewel comfortably transports 2,400 guests and over 1,000 crew. Combining speed, restaurant options, and family friendly accommodations, the ship also offers guests a wide array of public bars and lounges, extensive sports and fitness activities, and staterooms designed with rich cherry wood finishing.

When it's time for relaxation, the ship's Bora Bora Health Spa & Beauty Salon is operated by Mandara Spa, which fuses eastern and western-style treatments for optimized massage, facials, and more. The sports deck is open to fans of basketball, volleyball, and tennis, and the onboard Body Waves Fitness Center features state-of-the-art equipment, a hydrotherapy pool, and classes. For children, the Splashdown Kids Club has its own pool and an underground sea theme. Teens get their own club for socializing and activities. In addition, the ship features a wired Internet Cafe and a Photo Gallery with special kiosks for making digital prints.

Passengers can seek out their favorite dishes at Cagney's Steak House, Blue Lagoon, and the signature restaurant Le Bistro, or sample pastas at Mama's Italian Kitchen and tapas at Tangos. The main restaurant, Tsar's Palace, evokes the grandeur of St. Petersburg with gold ceilings, shining chandeliers, and ornate balustrades reminiscent of Faberge eggs. Dancers add to the ambiance at Asian-inspired Chin Chin, and pop art punctuates the scene at Azura. Bars and public lounges are sprinkled throughout the ship, ensuring that a favorite cocktail is never too far away. At Bar Central, varying drinking pleasures come together in the form of the side-by-side Shaker's Martini & Cocktail Bar, Magnum's Champagne and Wine Bar, and Maltings Beer & Whisky Pub. The ship also features the unique Sky High Bar, a beer garden that looks like a hot air balloon.

Thanks for all the information on the restaurants. I found out there is also the Garden Cafe/Kids Cafe which is a buffet and the The Great Outdoors which is located outside the Garden Cafe. The Blue Lagoon is also a buffet.

I am on the Jewel the week after you. Wish we could input on cruise tracker to find more travelers for our cruises. Le Bistro is surcharge. Sometimes some of the surghare resturants will have a 1/2 price night. Watch the daily newsletter . Have seen it that way on 1st nite and Cozumel nite (late in port) when I was on the Dream. Have seen similar discussed on the various cruise boards.

Took my kids cruising when they were 10/13 and 11/15 back in 1989 and 1990. they were hooked. Oldest did a European cruise for honeymoon and youngest is booked on the Liberty in Dec for her honeymoon. We set up rules, meeting for breakfast, check in times, location reporting and ALWAYS did dinner together. Today I might let the kids join their age group for a couple dinners. That would give me a chance to do the surcharge resturant a nite/2 if I wished.

We will be sailing her on Sept 04, transatlantic. We will have a full review when we return. So far the few reviews that we have seen are pretty positive, but the biggest complaint seems to be the prices for wine. It seems to me wine and spirits must be a little less expensive in Europe than in the US, so we will see when we get a review from someone who lives in America. So far the 3 I have read have been from England. If drinks are as expensive as it seems we shall consentrate on water. LOL

"There are three extra-cost dining options aboard Norwegian Jewel. Prices are nominal but most agree, the cuisine is excellent and the dining ambiance is intimate. Le Bistro French Restaurant – an NCL hallmark – offers French and continental options. Cagney’s Steakhouse offers succulent, mouth-watering steaks and Chin Chin Asian Restaurant features a main dining area as well as a separate Teppanyaki Room and an adjacent Sushi Bar and Sake Bar. "

We will be sailing on the 11/20 cruise out of Miami.

This will be our 3rd cruise with NCL, having sailed on the Sun in 2002 and the Dawn in 2004.

We're also sailing on the Jewel on 11/20. Looking for a hotel with shuttle to pier to stay the night before--any suggestions?

We are back and I just wanted to post a few observations about our 10 day experience. There are 3 restaurants that charge extra: Chin Chin's is $10 as is Le Bistro; Cagney's $15. all are worth the price. As for the ship, there isn't too much more anyone could want when cruising. The staff was outstanding, I beleive this is one of the few times I could actually tell you the name of the cruise director. He and his assistant were everywhere as were the other staff members. All friendly, knowlegable and fun.

The only bad or less than good food we experienced was in Tangos. The tapas were a joke, DH ordered Fajitas and coming from NM you can imagine, we are used to good ones with some spice. These had no spice, little flavor and not much to even remember them by. I did order bar-b-qued ribs and they were quite good. Nothing was spicey. The Blue Lagoon is the place for a quick meal or snack: great fish and chips, burgers, hot dogs and chicken wings. There was more zap to that food than Tangos. We loved Mama's Italian kitchen. For those from Chicago and NYC I would guess the food isn't terribly authentic, but to us it was great as was almost everything. I had one bad steak and DH said is duck was nothing but fat. We know all duck is fat, but this boy needed to go on a diet big time.

Our cabin was on deck 4, forward so we did get some noise. The cabin size isn't a suite yet the storage was quite satisfactory and the bathrooms, especially the shower the best we have had. All in all we were not diasppointed a bit; the coffee maker worked fast, the little refridge held the few things we that needed being kept cold and the bed offered total comfort.

Embarkation and debarkation were a breeze, but we had to wait an hour for a taxi.

The entertainers outdid themselves on this one; Everything from the production shows to the piano bar rated a 10 in our estimation.

The crew couldn't have been more helpful and the decor, which I was afraid would be gaudy was well done, very upbeat and electric. We loved it. this does not mean we want to re-do our house using the same designers, but for a ship you had to be happy as the colors made us happy.

Even though we missed one port the itinerary was up to NCLs usual variety which, along with freestyle is why we keep coming back to NCL.

If anyone has any questions I would be glad to answer them. For those planning on cruising the lady, be prepared for almost perfection.

Just returned from 10 days on the Jewel

Your list is pretty complete - you need to update the prices. Because of the expanded space in the specialty resturants the prices have been lowered . Perhaps the only thing less expensive. The Bistro is only $10 and was half price day one and free to silver + Latitudes members day 2. Cagneys has been reduced to $15. Chin Chin down to $10 with all you can eat sushi at $5.
