As newmexicoNita suggests, tipping policies in Europe and the Far East are quite different from our American traditions. The built-in service charge is the norm in Japan and most of Europe (and in Japan an extra gratuity is not expected). NCL has a worldwide clientele and its new service-charge policy will be more familiar and comfortable for Asian and European passengers -- though perhaps not for parochial Americans.
