Hi All

My husband and I are set to sail to the Mexican Rivera on April 16. Anyone else booked on the cruise? I'm ignoring all the negative I've heard on the boards and looking forward to just going and having a great time. Would love to make friends in advance to meet on the ship!

What negatives? Except for the cabins needing new decor I can't' think of many negatives to report about the Star. Oh, I take that back, if you are referring to the pod problems, yes, that is a concern as well, but I wouldn't worry to much about it. At worst you will miss Acapulco and that is not a big loss in my opinion.

The ship is clean, the food good in most cases, very good in some. Make sure you try Endless Summer. We loved it, plus for comfort food you need to try lots of things in the Blue Lagoon.

Unless you love giving your money away, I would stay clear of the casino. It was the tightest of any NCL ship we have sailed, almost as bad as HAL.

Have a great cruise and report back. Try and go to Los Gatos beach, you won't be sorry.

ps, it isn't too late to wander over to CruiseCritic and read the roll call section. You may want to take part in their meet and greet. It is a fun way to get to know people early on.

I guess a word most of us understand better is just plain engine. I can't explain exactly what the heck the pod really is, but whatever, on a certain number of slightly newer ships, not just NCL by anymeans engine problems are slowing the ships down causing them to miss ports. Because the Star does 4 ports in 8 days and takes in more miles than many ships they sometimes miss Aacapulco because of problems. This really isn't the end of the world as it isn't most people's favorite port. I think you will enjoy your cruise, it is a wonderful time of year to cruise the Mexican Riv and 2.0 seems to be in effect on, at least some of the ships.
