Hello. This is going to be my 5th cruise, but first time on NCL.

NCL Star to Mexico (12/25/10 - 1/1/11). I've booked an AB Suite on Deck 11.

I would like to know all about NCL and the Star.

Thanks.

I was on the Star to the Mexican Riviera in October 2005. It is a different itinerary then you are on. I wrote a review. It is long and thus in two parts. However, the biggest problem is that something happened fairly recently that changed all the formatting, so now it is just one long paragraph, which makes it hard to read ...

Part I - http://www.cruise-addicts.com/reviews/readreview.php?id=176
Part II - http://www.cruise-addicts.com/reviews/readreview.php?id=177

I also have some photo albums ...

Many love the Star, I will be honest, it is probably my least favorite of all the NCL ships, but that doesn't mean it is a bad ship; it just ins't one that I personally love and I don't know why..I think one reason, the cabins are really small and the larger of the 2 MDRs is very noisey, plus I didn't like the casino. What I did like: the service was good, the food good and the ship, overall is pretty and in great shape for her age. Be sure and visit the Carousel bar, it is delightful. Our favorite place to eat if you want to enjoy the specialty dining rooms was Soho. It is a little less expensive than some others but the food and service were great...Of course for comfort food you have to spend some time in Blue Lagoon. We also liked :endless Summer" but that was when there was no extra charge. I don't know if I would pay the money to eat there.

I spent way too much time in the casino and would do anything to have a change to do those days and nights over again. I would throw my money someplace else. At least I tell myself that..LOL

I don't know if you have ever cruise the Mex Riv, but if you haven't I would recommend you do a whale watching tour in Cabo.

Make sure if you want a good seat at the shows you get there about 1/2 hour before showtime.

If you have any questions I will try and answer them. It is a nice ship and hopefully you will fall in love with freestyle cruising even though you are going the week that will have the most kids on the ship you will ever see in one place at one time. Oh, I like kids, don't get me wrong, I am just adding that because often service on holiday cruises isn't as good. I think we can all understand why, they crew is kept very busy with sold out ships.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not too concerned about the kids. I was on the Golden Princess for Christmas 2007 and they did a great job with the kids. They supposedly had over 800 kids. You would have never known it. I'm sure NCL will do just as good of a job.

I've read about the suite amenities on other boards, so I think I'm up to speed on that. You mentioned Endless Summer....what kind of food?

Also, for seating at the shows, don't suites have special seating? Or is that for OS and above? I can't remember what I read about that. But, I'm not too concerned...while on Princess, I normally got there 45 mins to an hour and got the same seats every night. :)

I'm looking forward on trying a different line. I've done Princess, RCCL, and Carnival. RCCL and Carnival were the 3-day out of Los Angeles....so it's hard to compare those cruises to 7-day. But, I didn't like Carnival. That one seemed so much more of a booze cruise than RCCL.

I do have a questions about boarding. If the staterooms are not ready, can you still drop off your carry-on luggage in your stateroom?
