Hi I took my first cruise this past December on the Glory and fell in love. Ive talked my mother and sister inot going on a cruise with me in the fall and now im stuck with decideing where and on what ship. They have never cruised before and i really want them to enjoy it as much as i have. Any suggestion as to which ship we should go on? Is it a completely different experience on the littlier and older ship then it is on the spirit class? Are the older ship well maintained? Excited and nervous about this any information helps Thanks.

I honestly have been on one cruise and that was the Sensation~that was before the overhaul. I really loved that ship but I have nothing to compare it to. The Sensation was beautiful and I am not sure if the interior changed but I felt like I was in Vegas on that ship! It seems to be a popular ship as well.

All ships are unique in their own way. Even if they are the same class. I would suggest booking a cruise by the itinerary. In other words where would they like to go. Then of course with me the cost of the cruise also comes into play. Also the length of the cruise may be an issue with your party.

Not sure if you realize this or not, but the Glory is a Conquest class ship, not a Spirit class ship. That said, the Spirit class is very popular. Big, but not too big. However, there might be a problem with the water slide. I have heard that the Pride's slide is shut down until drydock. Not sure about the other three Spirit class ships.

I read on another board that the Legend and the Miracle both have working slides, the two west coast ships are not. The two west coast, the Spirit and Pride are scheduled to have new slides this June I believe. As joeycox said, find out where they would like to go. If they have any preferences at all. Then ask how long they want to be gone. There is always the price to think of. The Spirit class is in between the Fantasy class and the Conquest class, which is what the Glory is, as Cruizer said. Also the shorter cruises tend to be more of a party atmosphere, where as the longer tend to be a little more relaxed.

Hope this helps, you came to the right place.:)

I book my cruises based on price. Any ship you pick will be fine.

Fall? Sept/Oct is Hurrican season and is the cheapest time to cruise. We booked the Destiny oout of san jaun - an inside cabin goes for less then 500pp.

PS-- there will always be something special about your first cruise. I had a great time on every cruise we took to date. But the Sensation being my first is still my favorite.

I hope your mother and sister enjoy their first cruise as much as you did.

There's something to be said about the older ships. The Holiday, for example, is Carnival's oldest and smallest ship in their present fleet. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Holiday. There's a feeling of intimacy to me, and it's certainly easy to learn your way around the ship. She's still a fine ship, with friendly crew and staff, the food is just as wonderful, as well as the entertainment.

Shopping in Playa Del Xarmen

Hi,

My husband and I will be sailing on the Carnival Imagination in 10 days! (But who's counting, right??? LOL) ANYWAY--I was wondering who has been shopping in Playa Del Carmen. Any good bargains? Thanks!

Ditto what Blue chef said about the Holiday! I've sailed on her 3 times so I must like her. I've also sailed on the Glory, the Pride and 4 of the Fantasy Class. Each has it's own personality. Obviously the larger ships have more options as to things to do, but the smaller one's seem to be more intimate and have a friendlier crew. To each his own! I'd suggest that you narrow down your choices to 2 or 3 ships and get some opinions from those who have first hand experiences on those particular ships.

My husband and I have been on several cruises, all I have to say is never cruise with Norwegian.... Carnival is the best by far, any ship anywhere, they are the most alive ships I have seen.
