Need advice before booking

My husband and I are getting ready to book a Mexican Riviera cruise on the Diamond Princess for our 30th wedding anniversary in early November. We have two issues that we can't seem to resolve though. First of all, we thought we should get a mini-suite because it is important to us to have a comfortable seating area inside the room. However, we learned that the minisuites on Dolphin deck have small balconies that are fully exposed and we hate that idea. Would appreciate some feedback as to whether we should sacrifice the inside seating and move up to a larger (and partially covered) balcony on Caribe deck. We would not use the balcony when it was in full sun or if it was too hot.

The second issue is PC dining vs. Traditional. We thought we were PC from the beginning until I started reading some of the horror stories about poor service, difficulty getting reservations, etc. I see on the Princess website that early seating Traditiional dining is 5:30 to 6:15. Does that mean you can go any time during that period or does it vary from ship to ship? 5:30 is too early for us but late seating is out of the question.

Will appreciate any input as we are newcomers.
