We would like to take train from Anchorage to Whittier but would like to know what others have done about getting from train deport to the port with luggage. It's my understanding there are no taxis and/or other means of transfer. Thanks for all help.

we are a group of four people and we are taking a limo from the hotel to Whittier. Four four people it is a bit cheaper to take the limo and much easier to maneuver the luggage. we are paying $275 plus 20% tip.

Yoyr post made me wonder also, since I will be getting off the train in Whittier in NINE DAYS!!!! Here is a response from a local in Whittier, and I also got the same answer from the city manager.

The Alaska Railroad terminal is about 300 yards away from
the cruise ship terminal. I don't think you'll have a
problem.

Thanks,
We are getting excited. This our fifth cruise to Alaska, and the previous ones have been so great. I will let you know about getting to the terminal.

pudycatz,

Just got in last night from our cruise. The terminal in Whittier is just across the road from the train tracks. I think the distance is more like 300 feet. There is no problem getting from the train to the terminal. Take anything you want to carry on ship with you on the train. The ltrain lets people off that is going on any excursions first, and when they're off, the then get the checked luggage, and then they let the ones getting on ship off. It took us 15 mins to check in. Everything went smoothly....Kay C

As just about anywhere these days, make sure you have luggage with WHEELS that you can drag behind you. And, that you are able to lift them over curbs, etc.

By the way, Walmart has a nice sale on mid size and carryon right now for $68.

Great information, thanks.

We're doing the Spirit Southbound 8/2 from Whittier. Thinking you were on the Carnival Spirit, if I may ask a couple of questions:

1. Did you go through the Embarkation process at the Egan Center in Anchorage, or, did you wait until your arrival in Whittier?

2. How was your luggage transferred to the Dock from the train? By Alaska RR or by Carnival (if that was your cruise lines), or, by You? Thanks so much for your time. Cliff

17thtee,

We cruised on the Coral Prince on May 15th. We arrived in Anchorage a day b4 our cruise. Took the Alaskia RR to Whittier the next morning @ 10 am. Arrived in Whittier @ 12:30. You check your bags in at the railroad station before getting your tickets. The railroad unloaded the luggage from the train and took it to the cruise terminal (which is very close to railroad tracks). Then we went through embarktion in the cruise terminal @ Whittier. We went to our staterooms and were eating by 1:15 pm.

Thanks very much for the information, very detailed and just what I've been looking for. I especially like the time lapse prior to eating!! The youngsters will be glad to hear that news. Again, thanks very much. Cliff
