Maybe one of you frequent cruisers can help me. I'm confused about what I should do. I booked my cruise for 4/4/04, I also know Easter is on 4/11. I am not sure if schools are closed the week before Easter or the week after. Don't get me wrong I love kids, raised 3 and have a beautiful grandaughter but I do know on holiday vacations the ship can become very crowded with children. Also does anyone know when spring break is????? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer..............Linda

Many eastern schools would have the 8, 9, 10, 11, and maybe 12 for vacation. Spring breaks vary from March on.

I'm on the east coast and the schools here have the week of the 12th off and also the Friday before, which is the 9th. So that would be the 9th through the 16th.

I live in NYC and Easter vacation is usually the week between Passover and Easter.

Well, I just canceled for 4/4/04 and rebooked for 3/28/04. I was just informed the schools here in NY will be closed the week of 4/5. Like I said "I love kids" but from reading different reviews I know the ship can become very crowded on holiday weeks.
Now that I changed weeks does anyone know if I have to preregister again?

I'm laughing because I have traveled to so many places in my lifetime and a simple cruise is confusing me....................Thanks, Linda

I would imagine that you may have to preregister again. You probably have a new reservation number and cabin assignment. If they have remained the same, try to check your registration on the website. Enter your reservation number and the new sailing date and see what happens. I don't think anything today is simple :).

Hi again,
The dates were changed but the room and conformation # remained the same. I tried preregestering again for the new date and it said "No such conformation". I'll give it 24 hrs and call to find out whats going on. Thanks again, Linda

Just to let you know, in todays world spring break will start the first part of March and continue throw the week after Easter. The most heavily celebrated vacation week will be the 2nd and 3rd weeks of March. I think you have picked a pretty good week. Have a grat cruise. NMNtia

Hi Nita
I hope your right. I'm not trying to avoid children and their families. I'm just trying not to be overwhelmed by them. The Dawn is a convient vacation for New Yorkers (myself included) and I was really worried about Easter vacation. If I just elevated some of the crowd I'll be happy. :) Linda

MzLuLu, I agree with you 100%. Some children are ships actually make sailing even more fun, but when they take over the ship, fun becomes a nightmere. We were on the Sun a couple of years ago the week after Easter. Yes, there were kids then as well, but not too many, everyone I saw was very well behaved and a pleasure to be around. We took our 2 olderst grand daughters when they were 10 and 13. They had the time of their lives on that cruise. You will be fine. Have a great time. NMNita

Spring break covers a lot of week. I got stuck once on a date I thought was "safe" and there were over 700 kids. It really was a nightmare. They were everywhere, including adults only areas. The cruise staff tried to enforce policies but parents were not helpful. There were literally lines at the Pursers Desk from people like me who got sick and tired of the kids running rampant. They finally put up a big sign saying not to stand in line to report complaints about kids, they were doing their best.

I take very special care not not to get anywhere near spring break or the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Hi Kimmy
I agree 100% with you. I usually do the same and pick times that school is in session. The only reason I booked this month is because my husband turns 60 on 3/19 and it is his BD present from me. I should have just given him a shirt and saved myself all this aggravation....lol. Linda

I checked the NCL site today. It seems the week I originally planned to sail 4/4/04 the cruise is almost booked. I'm sure happy I changed weeks.
I'm also surprised that with all the people cruising so few write reviews. I do enjoy reading them, I find them very helpful.

I booked a cruise in the spring of 2000 that I thought was "safe". There were more than 700 kids aboard. It was a total nightmare. So many passengers complained that the Purser posted a sign saying that they were doing the best they could but could not force parents to supervise their children.

Be safe not sorry.
