Never had a balcony

My husband and I have probably done 15 cruises, but never had a balcony until the cruise coming up end of May. Are we going to be impressed and glad we paid a extra 700 bucks for it?

It's going to depend on a number of things:

The weather - If you have a lot of wind or rain, you probably won't use the balcony that much; except as a BIG picture window ...

The view - If your route takes you past some beautiful scenery, you'll be sitting on the balcony and enjoying the view ...

Your attitude - If you want to be impressed and enjoy it, you will ...

I don't know. How about after the cruise you come back and let us know. :sunny:

Hi, you won't sail again without one.....

People keep saying that. On my third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh cruises I had a balcony. On my 8th and 10th cruise I did not. On my 11th & 12th cruises I had a balcony. On my 13th cruise I did not.

So I know one person who has managed to cruise in a non-balcony cabin after being in a balcony cabin.

Balconies are nice and all, but I'm really not out there enough to (in my mind) justify the extra cost. Basically, I'm only in my cabin to sleep, shower, shave, change clothes and 'make whoopie'! Otherwise, I'm out and about doing stuff and/or feeding my face .... Many more things to do, that are heck of a lot more fun, than hanging out in a cabin. or on a balcony!

My husband and I just went on our first cruise and got the large balcony. We DID use it quite a bit and probably will not book another cruise unless we get one.

We had a balcony on our first cruise on the Conquest. We did spend some time out there, but not enough to justify the extra expense. So on our 2nd cruise this year we opted for an oceanview. We decided that we would rather be able to cruise more often. And without the balcony we would be much more likely to go topside and mingle more.

Once you experience a balcony, You will not want to go back to a
outside stateroom. first time I had a Balcony, I just love it. Having breakfast in the morning ouside or a couple of drinks at the end of the day. The extra money is worth it.

We booked one on our first cruise and was only used once for about 30 seconds. It really depends on you. We are not the kind of people to sit and sip on a coffee enjoying the morning sun. We like to explore the ship and lay out on the deck and get wet. Have fun!:boogie:

We have enjoyed a balcony for every cruise except our last one. We sailed on the Carnival Fantasy and there are no balcony cabins other than suites. Since we didn't want to pay a suite price we settled for and outside cabin. I missed my balcony but it wasn't worth that much extra on that particular cruise. I am back to a balcony on our upcoming cruise.

I've always thought the balconies add a great touch to not only cruise ships but houses and restaurants. There is something almost majestic about being out and over the open sea. Like others have said it's going to depend on the weather but for the most part I think the extra budget is justified with the experience.

So, when do you think they will install balconies on other modes of transportation, such as cars (do convertibles count?) and airplanes (on the Airbus 390 or Boeing 797 maybe)?

We always book a balcony if available. We spend loads of time on ours. Nothing like a room service breakfast, or a bucket of beers in the afternoon, or watching the sun set with some drinks before dinner, on your own private balcony!!! As stated several times above, IF it's in your budget, go for it!!

Once we booked a balcony we also were hooked! I like the fact I can go outside to view the ship leaving port or while it's sailing and NOT have to go up on deck to do it. I can go out there in my comfortable clothes, have a drink, and relax in private. The sounds of the ocean are relaxing too and if I'm feeling alittle queasy I'll go out there to get the breeze on my face and I instantly feel better!
