I am wondering if anybody has stayed at a local hotel overnight before their cruise, and if there is an early registration for boarding. Also, has anybody stayed in the 8000 series cabins right above the casino. Just wondering about the noise level. AND... can you request which restauraunt you are seated in?

Don't know about the early check-in. But the noise above the casino shouldn't be noticeable at all. The casino is not that noisy during it busiest times. Our room was right next to the pool on Lido deck and when the band was out there, it was not loud at all.
I know you can request what time you eat dinner, we switched from early to late. But what dining room? I'm not so sure. Just curious, but both dining rooms are the same, why do you prefer to be in one over the other?

Yes, I have stayed in NOLA many, many nights, and there are many excellent hotel rooms convenient to the port.

I know the Chateau Sonesta on Canal St. {Not the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon} has early check-in if enough passengers are staying there.

I have never noticed a loud casino. If the cling-cling of the machine paying off is that loud, I would want to be there and collect my share... LOL

As far as the restaurant, check with the Matire D' after boarding, and just like any fine restaurant, a $ 20.00 bill talks.... Good Luck

Well.... I have heard that one of the dining rooms seats at 5:45 and the other at 6:15 for the early seating, so I would like to able to choose which one is good for me. Thanks for the responses!

In 2002 we did Spring Hill Suites, 2 blocks up from Julia Pier. In 2003 we stayed at the Hilton Riverwalk. The Spring Hill's rooms are much nicer, larger, large continental breakfast, better service and 20 bucks cheaper. I believe they also had cheaper parking. Hilton was a nightmare, but in their fairness the computers went down. But we had dirty linens, tiny beds, and the complimentary mouthwash and such was used. This year, it will be Spring Hill or we may venture toward the French Quarter. Good luck!
