New policy, smoking no longer allowed in staterooms

Yes, the linking is not working now on any of the other cruise message boards either. Maybe RCCL has reconsidered, their position. If you do a search on FAQ it just states about public areas, which is no different than what has previously been said. I think RCCL must realize that people have booked and paid in full on cabins, only to find out they are non-smoking, would not be fair notice.

This policy comes into effect from 01/01/08 on all Royal Caribbean ships...except for the rhapsody, splendour and legend as they will be in International waters at that time...it will change on those 3 ships when they return to the US.

We were getting ready to book April 08 for 22 people.. now the entire trip needs to be re-thought because half our group smokes... I dont get this

it will be a problems with people in my group too. We have already booked for a 1/20/08 sailing and half of them are in outside and inside cabins, with smokers. I honestly can envision that people who don't frequent the cruise message boards, will not know about this until they get on the ship. I rather doubt that RCCL will inform all the passengers on all the sailings about the new policy.

There is already another thread on this announcement.......

The only difference is no smoking in the cabin....yet one can still smoke on the balcony.........plus they will make ONE bar non smoking.....

Pretty sad to me,if smokers cancel RCCL cruises just for that......

The other cruiselines will be VERY happy because a lot of smokers will be cancelling RCI and turning to the other lines.....me included. I don't understand why they don't go back to the way it was when I first started cruising......one side of the ship (including the cabins on that side) was non smoking and the other side was smoking.

But if the ship was sold like that(one side smoking.one not) what if you, a smoker went to book and all that was left was a non smoking cabin?? Would you book??

I know as far as being a non smoker,I really wouldnt want a smoking cabin........

I think RCCL would lose money that way sailing with empty cabins...

Im sure its a matter of time, most of the other cruise lines follow suit and do what RCCL is doing..

Having a section of smoking optional cabins might not be a bad idea, if a cruise was filling and all they had left were smoking optional cabins, then a person would have to decide to book a smoking optional cabin or go elsewhere. They do if for early/late dining so why not cabins

Thats fine with me(a non smoker),but could a smoker do without smoking in his cabin for a week if only non smoking cabins were available???

All the US airlines have gone smoke free. Many cities have restricted where someone can smoke. Without taking sides, given the history of smoking restrictions recently, this is not surprising.

The difference between RCI's policy and the Paradise is the Paradise was totally smoke free while the RCI ships still allow smoking, just in limited places.

While some smokers might book other ships, I wonder how many non-smokers will now book RCI. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

After 17 cruises as a non smoker with a wife who suffers with a breathing problem we can now find a venue on board to enjoy that pre-dinner cocktail and socialize without fear of having our breathing affected and our clothing saturated with cigaret and cigar smoke. Just think RCI, my bar bill with go up! And while I am on this kick, we won't have to hold our breath when waking through the Schooner Bar.

But they are only making ONE bar non smoking...not telling which one it is......would be nice if it was the Schooner Bar,but have a feeling it wont be,,,
