New to Princess! Grand Questions

We are booked for March on the Grand and I had a couple of questions on Princess and the Grand class of ships! How much is tipping on Princess ships? Are there any other pools than the Calypso and Neptune? Am I able to bring my own wine on board, if so do I have it in my checked luggage or carry on? Has anyone been bothered by the balconies where the people from above can look right down on you? I read somewhere that the icecream is not free, what about pizza and juices or lemonade? Thanks in advance!

Tipping, I think was $10 per person per day and that covers cabin steward and waiters. I think that is the amount, but I could be wrong.

There is also an aft pool, which has a great view of the wake trailing out behind the ship.

Yes, you can bring your own wine. Ice cream is free in the dining room, but the ice cream stand by the pools is Hagan Daz and they charge for that. Pizza is included with cost of the trip. Not sure about the juice and stuff. It was free in the buffet with breakfast.

There are 4 pools on the Grand and 8 hot tubs 9 if you include the ones for the teens only. The lap pool is on the Sun deck next to the spa, it is also called the swim against the current pool...The Terrace pool is on the aft of the Aloha deck and is adults only....The Calypso Reef solarium pool is on the Lido deck as is the Neptune's Reef. With each pool except the Terrace pool there are 2 hot tubs, the hot tubs for the Terrace area pool are on the deck above it. Then there is the kids area that has a tiny pool with a whale slide and in the off limits teen area there is another hot tub. So you should have no problem finding just the right pool to relax in :thumb
As Cruise Cutie mentioned they DO have Free ice cream available in the Horizon court in the afternoon and also in the dining room at dinner.

Wow, here I was thinking they only had the Neptune and the Calypso. What are the ages for the teen pool? Will 13 count? :)

Also, can I bring some sort of mini coffee maker on board? I have heard of people doing this, and with a balcony that big, I am afraid I am going to be hiding out in my cabin much more often!!

We were on the Grand last summer. A charge of $10 per person per day for Dining and Stateroom Personnel will be automatically added to your passenger shipboard account. You can go to the Purser's desk and adjust on the last night of the cruise if you feel it necessary. Gratuities for other shipboard staff such as the casino dealers and spa personnel will be at your discretion. A 15% gratuity is automatically added to all bar tabs to cover the bar staff.

Pool question answered by others, nothing to add.

You may bring your own wine on board but one piece of advice, carry it on yourself and don't put it in your luggage. I have heard several times about the bottles getting broken in transport. The way Princess load's luggage on/off the ship I would not put anything in my luggage that can break.

Have had several balconies on Princess Grand Class ships (Star, Diamond, Grand, Golden & Sapphire) with never a problem. Doesn't bother us that others can look down. Only way to avoid this situation is book a cabin that doesn't have a balcony above. Only way you can figure this out is by going to the Princess web site and look ath the ship layouts prior to booking then request a particular cabin. FYI, we have never had trouble with other passengers on balconies above us.

The answer to the icecream being free is yes and no. Yes, if you get it in the buffet around the times stated in the previous posts. No, if you want you can buy it from an icecream parlor between the Calypso and Neptune pools on the Lido deck (deck 14). They sell Haagen-Dazs icecream and other sundaes for a price. You can charge it to you shipboard account.

Pizza is free. They serve it on the Lido Deck just forward of the Neptune pool.

Juices are like icecream, free and not free. It just depends when you want them. During the breakfast hours you can get them at the buffet for free. Want them in the afternoon/evening and at most locations around the ship you will probably have to pay for them. Only thing that is really free all the time is water, coffee and ice tea.

Hope this helps out.

Saw your other post and just to clarify, there is a hot tub for teens only (on the Sports Deck) but no actual "teen" pool. Kids are limited to the two main pools center ship and for a period of time during the day can go in the pool that is surrounded by the spa but only with adult supervision.

If you are only planning to drink coffee in the morning in your room I wouldn't bother with a coffee maker. Room Service will bring it to your stateroom for free (you could tip the delivery person) at anytime in the morning you desire. All you need to do is fill out the request card with the time you want it and hang it on your door prior to going to bed the night before. As for the coffee, it has been my experience with the coffee that it has been the same as served in the main dining room. The coffee that is served in the buffet sucks badly and there have been several posts in the past that will verify that. I don't dring the coffee in the buffet anymore.

We love the Aft Terrace Pool as its Adult Only but the Spa Pool at the front of the ship is nice also and usually the warmer of the 4 pools. Enjoy!!! :thumb

The tiny pool with the whale slide is for toddlers, it wouldn't fit a teen :lol but there is a teen hot tub in the off limits teen area. I am not sure of the age requirements for it, but I'm sure someone will be able to help you on that one :wave

Never even bothered with the hot tubs, everytime I went by it looked like Seasoned Citizen Stew. The thought was not very appealing.
