we are thinking of booking on the caribbean princess western for august 2005..
Family of 5

A few questions:

What kind of movies do they play at the movies under the stars? are they G or PG rated for kids?

On formal nights are there many children attending?

Are the brodway shows G rated?

Where can I find Menu's and the princess patter to look at so I have an Idea of what it is like?

last but not least:

Tell me about the cabins that sleep 4.
Where are the extra beds located? and how small are the cabins?

Thanks in advance for your help

Edit..... removed tiping question way to hot of a topic.....

I cant answer all of your questions as I have not sailed the Caribbean Princess, but I have sailed other Princess ships in the past. As for tipping... the word "refuse" bothers me, but thats beside the point. You can in fact go to the pursers desk and have the automatic tips removed from your shipboard account. As for formal nights, there weren't a whole lot of kids participating, but the ones who did were dressed for the evening. Very cute! Great occasion for family photos. For the menus and Patter info, I know there are copies out there somwhere but I dont know exactly where to tell you to look. If no one else can tell you, try the Princess website. Sorry, dont know about the movie ratings.

I can answer a few of your ??'s..you can take the automatic tips off..I and Dh Mark do NOT remove them..but the pursers's desk will very graciously do so at your request....we always sail in February ..our kids are grown..:grin..on Valentines week ..so there are very few kids on board..we also choose 2nd seating..on formal nights the kids were at early seating and formally dressed..there are movies in the room and at the theater..for movies available as they are new releases..depends what the studios have out at the time..wishing you good luck..we =love Princess...hope others can help answer your ???'s..;)..Joanne

Regarding tipping, yes you can ask at the purser's desk and they will remove the tips from your account. I don't understand why you would want to do this though unless the service was dismal!

Children do attend formal evening with their parents. It is wonderful to see everyone dressed up and many families take advantage of the occassion to have formal photos taken....Those photos would make great Christmas gifts for Grandma and Grandpa :grin!

I don't know if the Movies under the Stars are GP rated but I would bet that they are not! Shows are geared for adults as well though depending on the ages of your children they might enjoy the "Broadway" type productions. You will probably get a better idea by reading the patters from previous Caribbean Princess cruises.

Here is a link to Caribbean Princess Menus and Patters! Enjoy!

we will tip we just prefer to do it at our discretion... we also have 3 children who may or may not dine with us why pay tip if I am the one feeding them at the food court? Sory I know this is a hot topic however we just prefer to tip on our own....

Can you refuse to pay the amount upfront to start with?.... My understanding is before you board you must deposit $10 a day per person in to the account..

Whoops, I see this falling in to the argument of do I or don't I tip for children :grin! Of course you must do what is right for you.

You should know that on Princess the tips that are left on your shipboard account are pooled. If you take the tips off your shipboard account and tip your servers individually, the servers must pool those individual tips. If you leave the auto tipping on your account and then tip over and above that amount to your servers they get to keep the extra (no pooling of the extra amount of the tip).

I don't really understand your question about depositing the tip up front. It just automatically appears on your account at the end of the cruise. Should you not want to give the tips that way go to the Purser's Desk sometime during the cruise and have the tips removed.

I love your signature line about the Pixie Dust! I hope the cruise you are planning is filled with magic!!

Yikes maybe I am missunderstanding the tiping procedure, we plan on using cash to pay our shipboard act.... Our understanding is if you plan on using cash you must deposit it upfront, you can add cash later to up the account... as far as tipping we were told if your act is cash you must deposit it upfront $10 a day per person... and just to clarify we plan on tipping for our children, as I said we just prefer to tip at our discretion... tips going into a pool, I had heard that, however I dont agree with that pocedure... but you cant chang the line...

Im not sure of the guidelines for depositing tip $ when using cash..... but if they make you do that, go ahead and deposit it. Then once on board, you can see the purser, and have the tips taken off (which will lower the accound balance due). Then you can tip however you like. Use the amount you deposited originally as tips for drinks, photos, bingo, whatever. As far as the show in the lounges, there were a few ( I havent been on Princess since 2002) that were ok for kids, but the later ones were usually geared towards adults. Common sense in choosing your shows should be ok, obviously commedic acts may have adult langueage and content, things like that. You can always ask a staff member if you cant tell ahead of time what kind of show it is you are considering taking the kids to.

Sorry Pixie Mom I can't help about upfront cash deposits if you are choosing to pay your account in cash. Maybe someone else here knows the answer! Please understand that I'm not arguing with you about your choice of how to tip staff...that is strictly your business.

I have read several reviews and the movies I have seen listed are:
Something's Gotta Give starring Jack Nicholson & Dianie Keaton rated PG13

Wizard of Oz (classic)

Tina Turner in concert

So it seems like there are a variety of movies that are shown. I have not read anything about the show ratings just that they are good.

As for the cabins- you might find your cabin layout through this website:
