Been on Carnival and Norwegian many, many times. Now for the first time, we are on the Voyager of the Sea in Feb 2010. Are there any major differences, positive or negative between these cruise lines. Like food, entertainment, ect. Are there midnight buffets, open deck parties, ect. Anything you can add will be appreciated.

Ahoy There Hawkeye!

Think you're going to be pleasently surprised. RCI is, IMHO, a definate step up. You won't find as intense a 'party' atmosphere as on Carnival, and a generally higher quality than NCL. But, there will be plenty of activity, great buffets and very good entertainment.

I have been on RCCL twice both short cruises (Majesty & Enchantment) I absolutely loved it both times. I thought the staff was so fantastic, food was great. The first time they had the chocolate buffets but the 2nd one they got rid of it. They did have other midnight buffets but we were too stuffed to eat. You do have assigned seating which we enjoyed. The people we were paired up with were very nice. I thought the food at the main dining room was very good. It was for sure a quality experience.

Ok, you travelled NCL - I am leaving for my trip Nov. 16, 09. Short 4 day Bahama Norweigan Sky trip. Can you tell me anything about NCL or the SKY???

Thank,s

I cruised Carnival for many years before switching to RCI. For me biggest difference are the ships, crew and atmosphere.

Ships are so far ahead of Carnival in design and looks. Also, I have found that RCI does a much better job in keeping the ships cleaner and in better condition. The crew has always been more friendly and I like the somewhat calmer atmoshphere that one experiences on RCI.

As far as food and entertainment, that can vary from ship to ship. Do not miss the ice show. Very good. Food is subjective. Many think that Carnival has better food but for what I like in cruise food, RCI is better. To each their own in this case.

I think that it's good to step out and try other lines. I have also cruised twice with NCL and once with HAL within the last couple of years but continue to come back home to RCI.
