New York cruise ship piers

Has anyone had experience with the arrival and departure (end of cruise) experiences at the NY cruise ship piers.? I have no idea how one manages to connect with a prearranged pick-up when the ship returns to NY -- with over 2000 people trying to do the same thing in an area that isn't designed for it.

Designate a time for pickup and use your cell phone. The driver will describe his car and you will describe your party and where you might be standing. They may even have a sign in the front or side window with your name on it. Drop off is much easier since people are coming in at all different times.

Pick up is horrendous. I called my limo service as soon as I picked up my luggage. We were one of the first groups off the ship. He was parked on a side street and it took him 1 1/2 hours to go less than a mile. The NYC piers are terrible. I'm happy to hear that RCL is now departing from Bayonne NJ. I would avoid the NYC piers whenever possible.keukamom wrote:

Have fun!! We've taken 3 cruises out of NYC and it really depends on how many ships are docked that day. If it's more than 2 you are in for a nightmare. On one of our cruises there were 4 ships docked and it took us almost 3 hours for our cab to even make it up to the pickup area

We just crossed over the street and met our pick up on 50th street. That is the street directly across from the pier.
