Newbie and Smoker... And so many questions...

We are looking to book our first cruise and want to know about smoking on NCL cruises. In particular, the Prima and Encore. We cannot make up our minds on what ship and what room. Do we go with a Suite, Club Suite, The Haven or stop overspending and go with something practical??? How much time do people typically on spend on the balcony? BF is a type 1 diabetic and needs to have access to juice and what not, can you get this without going with The Haven room? What is boarding like? Do we upgrade the drink package? Is it better to have a room in the middle of the ship? This has become more confusing as we continue to look at the options. We thought planning Vegas trips was tasking... Definitely not like this! All help and information is so greatly appreciated!!!

Deciding on what type of room to have can only be decided by you. For us we spend very little time in our room and have always spent more time meeting new people on a cruise. Meeting new people is important to us and that will not happen in my room but some people like spending time in their room. I did a 60 day cruise this past winter and I spent less than 3 hours on our balcony. Seeing it is your first cruise I would bet you will spend most of your time exploring the ship and what it has to offer, in other words not a lot of time in your room. As far as getting juice for the BF you can get some juice at various bars however there will be a price unless you have the right drink package. Juice will be available in the buffets. Boarding the ships can be fairly easy however it depends on when you show up. If you show up during peak times it will take a while and you will stand in long lines however once the initial rush ends it can go quite quickly with no real problems or pressure. Should you upgrade your drink package? That depends on how much you like to drink. If you do not drink a lot the drink package is not worth it seeing your BF is a type 1 diabetic I would think he is not going to drink enough to pay for an upgraded package. I am a diabetic and I never use a drink package enough to pay for it. The advantage to having a room in the middle of the ship is you have the least amount of movement in rough seas. It would also mean you do not have to walk the length of the ship getting to many areas. I have had rooms all over the ships and it really doesn't matter to me where I am on the ship but I will admit I do feel it more in the bow or aft of the ship.

What you should think about is it is your first cruise. There will more to do on the ship than you know so you can be going all the time. Find what you enjoy on the ship and stick to that so you do not just wear yourself out. My wife and I find the areas we like the best and the majority of our time is spent in those areas. We have always met nice people and find plenty to do and enjoy. It is your vacation make it work for you.

Thank you so much!! Your response gave us the direction that we want to go. We truly appreciate the response! What is peak time for boarding?

We are sailing on the Prema out of "Orlando" for 7 days. We took your advice and downgraded to a room that was more reasonable. We are both happy with this decision and your responses helped us tremendously! We went with deck 9 and a room with a balcony. March 19th is our embarkment day and I cannot wait! Any and all tips are so appreciated!
