I have accumulated a $150 discount towards a RCI cruise and would like to book via cruise.com for an April sailing AND I have some gift certificates from RCI that I received for Christmas. For the points redemption, I have a coupon # but don't want to mess things up so...

1- At what point in the transaction does the coupon code get used?
2- How about the gift certificates? Can they be 'piggybacked' on for a larger price reduction?
3- OR is the full cruise amount charged on the cruise.com website and the coupons/gift certs used to reduce the charge on my credit card through some other process?

Hope this is understandable, lol. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Well,if you're going in April,I guess you already paid your final payment??(well,if its a long cruise, you have or about to.)....

I never use a TA ,just book directly with RCCL........but you can call in that $150(from VISA??) NOW....it sometimes takes time.......

The gift certificates can be redeemed now too and all that should be taken off your total(if you havent paid)............IF you have paid,.,all those will be used as OBC for your trip............

OK, now that I wrote all that,I reread and see you are about to book.................sooooooooooooo.tell the TA you have all those and they should take it all off your price............

Why book thru them though?? Why not directly??? (unless they are offering you some good perks)....cuz TAs can not discount rates....so they will be the same as RCCL...............

PH8 ...I think you answered your own question. Why book thru a travel agent when prices are fixed? Simple...they give you perks...sometimes lotsa perks!!! I get free travel insurance, chocolate covered strawberries, beach towels with logos, and best of all bonus ship-board credit. (That's cash to spend as you please)

I think the question is: why wouldn't you book thru a good competitive agent? And if you can't find one I recommend:

www.cruisecompete.com

They will bid for your booking...best perks wins!!!

Good Luck!!!:wave

I know all about that website............I just prefer to book on my own so I can reach them 7 days a week..........I pay attention to rate drops, different cabin availabilty,etc.........I call them as soon as I see something..........I do not want to wait to get in touch with someone ,fi its a Sunday or after 5pm,......I also know some of those agencies affliated with cruise compete charge you if you make changes.thats not for me.......

Lots of agencies (especially on line agencies) are available 7 days a week. Some even 365 days. I know I was here on Christmas and New Years Day. :(

I sail on the Mariner on 5/25/08. I had Visa coupons for $500 cruise discount, $150 cruise discount, and $50 shipboard credit. I requested the coupons from VISA, and they arrived in 2 weeks. I sent my coupons in before my final payment was due. The final payment came due before the coupons were processed so I used my credit card and made my final payment. Only two days later the coupons were processed and RCCL simply credited my credit card for $650. It went very smoothly.
