I will be cruising with just 1 other person, my mom, & we would prefer to be sitting at a table for just 2 -- is that always possible or do they just sit you whever there is room?
=yeah We always ask for a large table so we can visit with our shipmates. If you want a small table for two you can certainly request it. It also depends on the ships. For example, Spirit class ships have a lot of smaller tables including tables for two. Fantasy class ships have fewer small tables. Breakfast and lunch are open seating and your table at dinner will be assigned and you will sit at the same table each night.
We find that we actually get better service at the larger tables and it's always interesting meeting other people. The worst thing, though, is being at a larger table where a lot of people don't show up.
We ask to get moved on our first cruise. We were at a large, long table for 8 it was impossible to visit with everyone at the table, unlike when your at a round. Also the service the first night was the worst we have had. They happily moved us. On our 2nd & 3rd cruises we had a couple extra chairs and were ask if they could seat a single person with us. We welcomed them. It's worth a try if you don't like where your seated.
3 years ago on my first Cruise, we met someone that was at our Dinner table who turned out to be one of the best friends we have had. We have since taken 3 cruises together and we have visited each other in our respective cities. You can meet very good people by simply having dinner with them
My wife and I asked to have a table for two on the Triumph. As instructed by our T/A we made the request as soon as we could. I would agree with Don M that the service didn't seem to be as good as when we were at a larger table but then again that could have been the waiter and not so much the table. One thing to remember if you do get moved is to ask him what dining room your new assignment is in and what time, when my wife got us moved they said it was no problem and wrote down the table number for us only to later find out that it was in the other dining room at a different time!
