Darn. Thanks for posting. I was looking forward to Costa Maya on our March of 2008 cruise. I guess this means I'll have to book another cruise at a later date with a stop in Costa Maya.

I reluctantly booked on the Fantasy which has now been rerouted to Progresso. Is there anyone who has been to Progresso and liked it? I was very disapointed last time I was there, but I just went to the beach and the straw market. Has anyone done anything there that was worthwhile? I have 2 small children going as well and we are maybe thinking of just staying on the boat.

Answer depends on the ship: Fantasy will call at Progreso [as will Holiday]; Legend will call at Roatan; Glory is adding Key West (and dropping Belize as well as Costa Maya). Its new schedule is Port Canaveral, Key West, at sea, Cozumel, Progreso, at sea, Nassau, Port Canaveral.

Hello Jason,
I can tell you that when we ported at Progresso, I went off the ship to the small souviner shops at the dock, took a few pictures and got back aboard. I to am dissappointed about the Costa Maya port. It actually was my favorite port to just eat, drink and relax on the beach. Carnival says it won't be back until 2009 but Princess will be back in mid to early 2008. Whats with that? After Wilma, cozumel was up and running alot sooner and it substained alot of damage. In my opinion, I think that Carnival is trying to push Progresso as a regular destination for the shorter cruises and revitalize and expand Costa Maya as a larger cruise destination. I too am in the same boat(LOL) you are in. I'm booked on the Fantasy for Feb 9th 2008. I think I'll just stay on the boat and enjoy the jacuzzee.

Well I was under the impression that Carnival wanted to get away from Progresso because it was unpolpular with the guests. At least that is what I was told when we went there on the Glory in 05. I was hoping that they would at least route to Calica instead of Progresso.

We are just off the Glory this past Saturday. Though not the best port Progresso does have some pluses. If you are into Mayan Ruins it is the best port to go to for visiting some of the best ruins, so I've been told by fellow passengers. We just went into Progresso and took the $2.00 double decker bus tour and then shopped in the flea market. The beach street looked quite nice and was in full swing...everyone there looked like they were having a blast. Though the water isn't the clear blue blue of the Caribbean it was clean and sandy walking out into the water. That said, we went to Paradise Beach in Coz and it was very rocky and hard getting into the water and the water was cloudy from sand stirred up.

We were in Progresso what was supposed to be the last time Glory went there because of all the problems it was having last year with breaking down getting out of there. I have never gotten car sick in a port before & I did while there. It took forever to get to where we were meeting for our tour. We did the city one that lasted for hours and hours. In the heart of it all it really did look a little like Spain to me. It was okay to say I have been there once but I would not want to go back....

COSTA MAYA we were there last year this time with the Miracle & we loved it!!!! My husband & I decided that when we cruised again with that port included there would be no need to book & excursion because the way the man that owns that whole part set it up with the beach and pool right in the center it was perfect!!!! Although we did book not knowing prior about all of that & still had a wonderful time at the all day beach with fun stuff day.

That is horrible about Costa Maya being taken off the schedule. They were all soooo excited about it becoming a "cruise ship" stop as everyone said. Also little known fact, one man owns the port and most everything around there. He is very nice so this really does suck for him.

BELIZE
I could careless if I ever go there again in my life... I have been there twice now on 2 cruises and once as a tag along for someone's dive trip! I have never had a "great" or even good time there. TO me it's just hyped up on TV with shows saying oh let's go to Belize it's great... I think it's just one of those it sounds like a great island so it's overly talked about.

I just went ahead and switched ships to the Inspiration. I just couldn't get over going back to Progresso. I hope to go to Costa Maya once its back on the schedule it seems like a very nice place.

As for Belize Kim, it isn't that exciting unless you are a diver. We tend to get euphoric over Belize for a dive destination. When we were there we grabbed a single engine plane up to Ambergris Key and it was very nice there but Belize itself was not much to write home about.

I just found out our Costa Maya stop has been changed to Cozumel. Not too happy about that as I've been to Cozumel many many times but I'm still really looking forward to Costa Rica and Panama. Maybe we'll just stay onboard while the ship is in port in Cozumel.
