Since my original post on this subject Nov. 18th, we have just returned from our sailing on Voyager of the Seas out of Galveston, TX. I will report on the lobster situation. On the evening before the 2nd formal night I asked our waiter if we were going to have lobster. He did not want to give me a straight answer - just hemmed and hawed a little and said something about possible last minute menu changes and he wasn't sure. On the 2nd formal night we did NOT have lobster; HOWEVER, the NEXT NIGHT they offered a "Seafood Plate" that had one lobster and a few "garlic shrimp". The lobster was good and our waiter offered us a 2nd. He actually brought another plate without us asking.
Having said that, though, I would like to comment that in general my husband and I notice a decline in the quality of the food being served in the dining room. We loved the food in the Windjammer, but not as much in the dining room. The portions are shrinking as well. We don't believe the quality of their beef is up to standard. What they call a "filet" is not really anything I would serve at home. It's more like a mediocre sirloin at best.
One of our table mates had a steak and it was a pretty tough sawing operation for him!
On the last evening one of the dishes offered was "Steak Oscar". The description was "filet of beef with crabmeat and bernaise sauce on top". Sounded good but our waiter told us it was NOT crabmeat, but IMITATION crabmeat (a cod of some kind). I thought that very deceptive. We did not order that. Our whole table ended up ordering the "buttermilk battered fried chicken" (there wasn't a whole lot to choose from!). We all received two tiny pieces - not enough for even a few forkfulls. Our friend was served two "backs". I had a small drumstick and 'something else' which I'm still not sure what it was. It was served with a dollop of potatoes.
We have been disappointed in the direction the food is going on RCCL. We also notice other changes/cut backs -- no carved ham any longer at breakfast - no grill by the pool or the solarium -- just more and more things you have to pay extra for (Johnny Rockets - cover charge, etc.).
Again, I'd like to say we enjoyed the food in the Windjammer. We found that to be excellent - just disappointing in the dining room.
Does anyone else share these sentiments?
