I am planning on a cruise for our honeymoon and got a fairly good deal on the ROTTERDAM doing NEW ENGLAND and CANADA, spending 3 nights in N.Y.C. before the cruise and 3 nights in MONTREAL after the cruise.

I also got a deal from GRAND CIRCLE TRAVEL to go on the NOORDAM this MAY, 3 free nights in BARCELONA ,go on the ship from SPAIN 10 days and go to ROME and get 3 free nights in ROME.

The cost would be the same for both cruises, my only problem seems to be chosing between the ships i have heard some bad things about NOORDAM.

What does everyone think about this deal.

I have cruised on HAL before, and never had a bad cruise.

RYNDAM
STATENDAM
MAASDAM

Thank you

JIM

Rotterdam, definitely. No comparison. S7S has it pretty well summed up over on the Community board.

I've been on many of the HAL ship's -Including Noordam and Nieuw Amsterdam - And we have a Rotterdam cruise coming up in July. Plus Veendam, Volendam & Zaandam -We're real fan's of HAL, as you can tell; and we LOVED the 1200 passenger ships -EVEN with the occasional elevator that didn't work etc-
On the PLUS side for me in choosing -the intimate feel of the smaller ship. The size of the outside cabins AND the "minisuites" which are HUGE; and I think if I WERE going -I'd choose the bigger room - Or the rooms just in back of the lounge balcony - These are terrific too- GOOD size [ I think they are deluxe -outside] We had the FIRST one off the balcony bar- and there is a door that separated the bar-area from cabins- NO bad traffic noises. The crew in Noordam 2 years ago was SO great! Unsurpassed.
AND the European itinerary REALLY appeals. WE didn't travel to Europe until we retired and now I can't get enough of the adventure of European history!!!!!
Rotterdam is the Flagship- and the NE/Canadian itinerary sounds terrific too- Look like YOU have a dilemma, Jim.....But what a NICE one!!!!!!!!! Best of luck in choosing- BOTH sound great!

Rotterdam .. 62,000 tons (GRT), 1,316 passengers = 47.1 space ratio.

Noordam .... 33,930 GRT, 1,214 passengers = 28 space ratio.

Rotterdam new .... Noordam old.

Cabins larger on Rotterdam.
Balconies available on Rotterdam.

Unless you're looking for a certain itinerary, the Rotterdam is the more comfortable ship by far, and in my opinion an easy choice.

Jim it's true that the Noordam is an older ship and it's 'small' (by today's standards) - this is a Honeymoon trip - think of the ports - romantic to say the least! New England and Canada you can do anytime!

If you have the time, go on the NOORDAM - our first Canal transit was on her and I'll never forget it. Love the Rotterdam V1 too - done 3 Trans-Atlantics on her and a couple of other trips - lovely ship. For my honeymoon I'd choose the Noordam - there may be a few glitches en route but they will be fond memories in years to come.

Please post what you decide.

I would choose the trip on the Noordam from Barcelona to Rome anytime. Europe is a wonderful place for a honeymoon especially with three days in Barcelona and then a few days in wonderful Rome. It will be so romantic. I know the Noordam is not as modern as the Rotterdam, but you are getting a great deal and you will both have the time of your lives. Can you get one of the deluxe cabins as they are very roomy. We are going on the Noordam in September - from Copenhagen to Rome and I cannot wait for the trip. We go to Europe every year and I still cannot get enough of it.
