Norwegian dawn or carnaval legend

What are you looking for in a cruise and are you 20 something or 50 something? All these things will enter into the picture; no one can give you an answer, but we can give you ideas on the cruise lines if nothing else. NCL attracks a very wide range of ages, probably has the biggest overall spread of all lines. This doesn't mean you will find only young couples on any one line or only those aging, ageless widows on another line, it's just a generalization. NCL has better entertainment and usually better itieneraries, Carnival will have larger cabins and probably more activities. I like the food on NCL much better especially with the alternate restaurants. You just have to decide what are your likes and dislikes. Of course price will be a consideration. If NCL were less expensive or about the same I think I would opt for them. Hope this helps a little.

Hi, Yana - we sailed on the Carnival Legend for our honeymoon in Nov '02 - absolutely wonderful - the food was the best we've ever had on a ship and we've been on 4 NCL, 2 Celebrity, and 2 Carnival. Of the 8 ships - this was by far our favorite! We just did the Norwegian Dawn in April '03, and while the artwork is fantastic & it's a very pretty ship, there were a number of little things that I didn't like as well -

1) the corridors by the cabins are much narrower on NCL
2) food is good on NCL, but not as good or as much variety as Carnival (for the buffet and restaurant meals), and we preferred the Legend's Golden Fleece supper club to the restaurants on the Dawn
3) the items in the gift shops were very limited in selection on NCL - we collect ship models, refrigerator magnets & Christmas ornaments of the ships - NCL didn't have any of these things and didn't have any plans to get any (very tiny ship souvenir selection, except for t-shirts)
4) we always (until now) have bought the embarkation photo, but NCL would only sell it as a part of a much more expensive package, with keychain and wallet size photos, which we (and most of the other passengers) didn't want. NCL did not get any money from us in the photo area
5) embarkation was very slow & disorganized with NCL, even if you were a Latitudes member

on the other hand, NCL had a much better coffee shop on board, which I preferred for my morning tea & Irish coffee over Carnival

Entertainment was about the same, although the NCL Dawn wins out with The Liar's Club late night comedy show.

Hope this helps!
