Hi,
We are a party of 4 looking for a non smoking party of 2 to share excursions with. We have booked 3 excursions. They are for the ports of Rome, Naples and Livorno.
We are using Romeinlimo.com as our tour company. They have fabulous reviews and you get a lot more for less $ than what you would pay the cruise ship for the same type of tour.
We have chose the Hightlights of Rome tour w/a licensed guide for the Vatican, the Pisa and Florence tour, and the Pompeii and Amalfi Coast tour. You can look these up on their website and see if they interest you. This is an example of the Rome tour:
HIGHLIGHTS OF ROME:
Enjoy an overview of the best sights that Rome can offer in one day only.
Your driver-guide will pick you up at the ship to drive to Rome. Your Tour will start at Venice Square where Victor Emanuel Monument is located, called the Wedding Cake.
Will continue to the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, Circus Maximus, Capitol Hill, the Palatine Hill and the Baths of Caracalla.
Back to the center of Rome, stop for a visit inside the Pantheon, walk through Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain.
We will stop for a traditional Italian Lunch (not incld) and shopping.
Will Continue the Tour to the Vatican City, the smallest state in the world.
Explore the richest storehouse of art in the entire world: the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica.
In the afternoon you will be driven back to the pier.
All rates are quoted in Euro funds. Payment in Dollars, Euro, traveller's cheques. Price includes driver guide for all the tour.
Price does not include lunch, gratuites nor entrance fees.
Entrance to the Colosseum € 11.00 (With us you will avoid lines) Entrance to the Vatican Museum € 13.00 Entrance to the Catacombs € 5.00
This tour is the only one that we reserved a professional guide for the Vatican part.
I figured it out that the ship charges I believe $350 a person for this same type of private mini van tour. With today's exchange rate this tour with the licensed (university schooled)tour guide and the paid entrance fees for a party of 6 with Romeinlimo would be $190 a person not including any gratuities.
The only thing is that I am holding the reservation with my credit card however, they only take payment on that day in US dollars, euros or travellers checks.
The cost to the Florence/Pisa would be approx. $115 a person for a party of 6 this includes advance reservations at the Accademia Museum(where the David is) and the Uffizi Gallery.
Last but not least the cost to Pompeii and The Amalfi Coast (includes a trip to Positano and Sorrento too) is also $115 per person. We did not hire a (university trained guide for Pompeii) it said you could rent audio guides while at Pompeii.
They say that you see so much more and miss all the lines in Rome especially. Visit their website and read the comments of other travelers, you'll be amazed.
