This is supposed to be a "handicap-accessible" cabin (I use a wheelchair). Has anyone stayed in it..or seen it? Any information you can offer regarding how it is laid out would be appreciated.

Also I'd love to hear anything about the Jewel and handicap accessibility in public areas. I was on another ship (not NCL) and was quite disappointed to find that if I needed to use a bathroom, there were only two truly accessible bathrooms in the public areas, and generally I found it more convenient to simply go back to my stateroom. I'm hoping the Jewel will be better?

I haven't been on the Jewel, but I can tell you about her sister ship, the Pearl. I would imagine that many things will be similar. There were accessible washrooms near every public venue - the theatre, the main restaurants, the casino, and the Great Outdoors/action stations. They were truly accessible, with electronic doors, lots of grab bars, and good height to the toilets. If you enquire at the reception area, they may have the same benefit we had on the Pearl. They swiped our onboard card to allow us to access the one elevator aft that goes directly to the accessible entry to the main dining area. This would save you switching elevators. You can call this elevator from any deck of the ship - but it is only the one elevator! If your cabin is a balcony cabin, the door to the balcony should also be electronic - opening with a push of a button. We really enjoyed the accessible features of the Pearl - so much so that we are booked on her again this Fall.
Enjoy your cruise. If I can be of any help, please ask!

Thanks, Annette, this truly is helpful. I did hear about the elevator access from someone, but they were pretty vague about how ti worked..I'll be sure to ask about it when I get on board.

Our cruise is in the fall, too. It's been awhile since we've cruised, and never on NCL, so it will be an adventure.

Thanks, DaveJohn, for the pictures. If indeed the ships are similar, it looks like I'll be able to manage just fine. I really appreciate your help!
