Oceanview Stateroom in Continental Deck

Hi folks,

This is my first cruise and I am still clear on few things. Local agents don't seem to tell everyting about a cruise. They arranged me a room in Millenium, for mediterrenean tour. It is oceanview stateroom in continental deck. It is the first (front) room in this deck, #2001. I kind of believe this is the worst room in the ship, since there is no more room after this one. Anyone can confirm?

Thanks in advance,

Al

Hi Al. Small world because that is my name as well. I'm not a travel agent and don't have extensive cruise experience, although I do have some. So take this for what it's worth. You know that old saying about the 3 factors in real estate valuation are location, location and location? Well that also somewhat applies to cruise cabins and hotel rooms. More desireable the location higher the price. Lower the price, less desireable the location. The 2001 rm on the continenntal deck is in the category of the least expensive oceanview cabins onboard. There are only about 20 of them. Five on each side in the very front and 5 on each side on the very rear. They are also on the lowest deck. None of them are wonderful. You would have to move to another more expensive category in order to get a better room.
As a general rule I like to be toward the middle of the ship and not in one of the 3 lowest decks. My observation is the ship always has some few "bargains", cabins in bad locations like at the extremities or obstructed views. I hope this helps. Good luck.

I totally agree with Polodad's post. I will add this: the fore (front) of the ship will pitch the most (as the aft-rear) also does. The middle of the ship is more stable. I don't know whether you've ever suffered from seasickness before, but it is NOT very pleasant at all. I personally would rather be in an inside cabin that is 2 or 3 decks higher and in the middle, then take an "oceanview" in the bottom front (or rear) of a ship any day.

Only you, however, can decide what your requirements are. Keep in mind that you are paying good, hard-earned money for what I'm sure is a well-deserved vacation, and the last thing you need is to not be able to enjoy the cruising experience.

Good luck.

A few additional thoughts. Along with comfort from seasickness if you are towards the middle of the ship you are closer to the elevators and stairs. If you are at the very rear or front you probably have a fairly long jaunt to anywhere. Of course this can be an advantage if walking off the nine course dinner.
The post above brought up a good point. If you have only so many dollars to spend it may be a wiser choice to put those same $$$ to use on a well located inside cabin as opposed to a poorly located ocean view cabin. You probably won't spend that much time in your cabin anyway so perhaps the location is more important then a view. That's for you to decide.

Room 2001 is 8 rooms away from the elevator and a straight shot to the Theater, aqua spa and sunrise deck. Have been in similar room on other ships and generally speaking found it quite handy. The motion of the ship could be a concern I will agree.
