We took "mountain to sea" bike trip through Carnival that included a refreshment stop and a plunge in a lagoon at the bottom of the mountain with some interesting folklore along the way from our guide.

I would say you can't go wrong with a tour with Phil Lafayette. He is great and you can do or not do what ever you want. Ocho isn't a port you want to strike out on your own. It's much better to be with a good tour guide.

HI
I HAVE NOT BEEN TO OCHO RIOS BEFORE, BUT HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND THINK A GUIDE IS A POSITIVE THING. YOUR WHOLE DAY COULD BE RUINED, BECAUSE GOING OUT ON YOUR OWN WILL BE DISAPPOINTING IF YOU DO NOT LIKE AGGRESSIVE PEOPLE. I HIRED PEAT TAYLOR TO TAKE US AROUND, WE ARE DOIN DUNNS BUT THEN GOING TO RUINS RESTAURANT FOR LUNCH, I GUESS IT IS REAL GOOD AND BEAUTIFUL SCENERY. WE WILL ALSO GO TO THE RAINFOREST AND TOUR SOME SMALL TOWNS AND SCHOOLS. HE WILL PRACTICALLY TAKE YOU ANYWHERE FOR 30.00./ WE ARE ALSO GOING TO GO TUBING DOWN THE RIVER. I REALLY QUESTIONED WHETHER TO EVEN LEAVE BOAT DUE TO SOME REVIEWS, BUT CAN'T IMAGINE NOT SEEING THIS WONDERFUL CULTURE UP CLOSE. A-Z PLANNERS OR IONIE BEAM OR PHIL LAFAYETTE ALL SEEM TO HAVE GREAT REVIEWS AND MAKE YOU FEEL SAFE. GO TO THEIR WEBSITES AND GET IDEAS OF LOTS OF ACTIVITIES THAT DO NOT INVOLVE DUNNS. I AM SAILING NEXT WEEK!!

Hi,
We cruised into Ocho Rios on Feb 16 and we had hired a private tour with Ionie McBeam or Queen Mcbeam. She was great. Ionie picked us up at the pier in a a/c van and took us to Dunns River Falls; there are other options if this is not something you would like to do. She met us when we were done and she gave us a scienic tour through the Fern Gully and then she took us shopping totally leaving it up to us how long we wanted to shop, she just hung around. Ionie even personally took us through a market place which was a little intimidating for the first timers. When we said we were done she took us back to the pier. So rush, no hassles, it was a great expierance. www.ocho-rios.com this is the website.

Stephanie,

We also booked with Peat for the Mariner stop in Jamaica. What time did he tell you to meet him? Does he have multiple guides or will we be in a large group? We have asked for the Falls and a private but quick tour of island and then a beach.

HI SAILON!!

WE GOT A CONFIRMATION PAGE FROM PEAT, HE WAS VERY VERY FAST AT RESPONDING. IT SAID TO MEET HIM 30 MINUTES AFTER DOCKING, AND DUE TO THE LAWS THERE MAY BE A SECURITY GUY WITH A CARD WITH HIS NAME ON IT AND HE WILL TAKE US TO PEAT. OR TO ASK ONE OF THE SECURITY PEOPLE TO HEAD US IN RIGHT DIRECTION IF WE DO NOT SEE ANYONE. HE THEN SAID TO BE SURE TO ASK FOR HIS IDENTIFICATION CARD, BECAUSE PEOPLE IN JAMAICA SOMETIMES TRY TO REPRESENT SOMEONE THEY ARE NOT. HE SAID TO PAY HIM AFTER TOUR. SEEMS TO BE VERY PERSONABLE AND FLEXIBLE. I TOLD HIM WHAT I WANTED TO DO, AND SAID HE WILL GET IT DONE. BUT I ALSO SAID WE WERE VERY FLEXIBLE AND WILL GO ALONG WITH WHATEVER. HE DIDN'T SAY HOW MANY IN CROWD, BUT I THINK I READ SOMEWHERE IN THESE REVIEWS THAT THERE ARE OTHERS THAT ARE USING HIM? THERE ARE 6 IN YOUR GROUP? AND ONLY TWO OF US, SO HE SAID HE USUALLY ONLY RUNS 15 AT A TIME NORMALLY.I AM GLAD I KNOW YOU WILL BE ON TOUR, I LIKE SMALL GROUPS, BUT NOT JUST MY SISTER AND I ALONE.
WE ARE GOING TO DUNNS FALLS(BETTER TRY ONCE) AND RUINS RESTAURANT FOR SURE FOR LUNCH, AND A ISLAND TOUR OF SOME KIND, JAMAICAN NEIGHBORHOODS HE SAID.THEN MY SISTER WANTS TO GO TUBING. SO IF TIME ALLOWS WE WILL DO THAT, 20.00 FEE FOR THAT. BEFORE WE LEAVE I WOULD LIKE TO GO TO MARGARITTAVILLE FOR ONE OR TWO, BUT MAY NOT HAVE TIME.

I LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING YOUR 'CROWD' SHOULD BE FUN!

WE ARE HAVING A BEACH DAY IN NACI COCOM BEACH IN COZUMEL(SP?) AND LADABEE SO I DECIDED NOT TO GO TO THE BEACH HERE, BUT WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM.

I posted this and couldn't remember where I posted it! On our last cruise, I had corresponded with a family from Florida but we never made plans to meet on board. On our last stop of the week, we just happened to share a cab with them. I know you are with your sister (I'm the one that is taking a 19 year old friend of my son's who is determined to wear flannel and combat boots) so I hope to meet you guys. We're on 7th deck and will be at the meet and mingle. I'm Melanie so find me!

HI MELANIE

I WENT A REGISTERED FOR THE MEET AND MINGLE(WASN'T SURE WHAT THAT WAS INTELL YOU MENTIONED IT), SAID 7O+ PEOPLE. NICE GROUP SEEMS.
I AM GOING TO TRY TO TALK MY SISTER INTO GOING, SHE IS A LITTLE INTROVERTED AND TAKES A WHILE TO COZY UP TO HER. HOW ABOUT I JUST WON'T TELL HER WHERE WE ARE GOING, HUH?SHE IS A BLAST WHEN SHE GETS OUTTA HER SHELL.
MATTER FACT WE ARE ON 7TH DECK I BELIEVE ALSO, I CAN'T REMEMBER ROOM 72?? IT OVER LOOKS PROMENDADE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT MY TA SAID.

ARE YOU LATE SEATING OR EARLY? MY TA SAID I GOT LATE SEATING, BUT DO THEY SOMETIMES CHANGE THAT? I HATE EATING EARLY AND HAVING TO RUSH TO GET DINNER.

MY SISTER LIVES IN TENNESSE AND MYSELF IN IOWA SO FRIDAY(WEE HOURS IN A.M) WE ARE MEETING IN ORLANDO FOR 2 NIGHTS. I ORIGINALLY HAD ROOMS AT DOUBLETREE IN SOUTH BEACH, BUT CHANGED IT AND NOW STAYING ON INTERNATIONAL DRIVE IN ORLANDO. SO ONLY 4 MORE DAYS!!!

SEE YOU ON THE BOAT!! SOMEWHERE.

We booked Trevor Hudlin for Ocho Rios...he is the best. We were the only ones on our tour so we invited some friends we met on the ship. We went to the falls and were one of the first ones there. We went by ourselves, no guides. Then we went horseback riding through some of the town and into the ocean. After that he took us on a tour of some of the area like Fern Gully and to the top to see the view and our ship. He showed us plants and fruits native to Jamiaca and we tried some. Then he took us to a jerk chicken area where we ate (about $10 for lunch for DH and I). Then to shop. He took us wherever we wanted to go! He was fun, kind, honest and truly wanted us to enjoy our day. We highly recommend him.
