You know the people here make fun of the way we from Boston speak. And for the most part I think it is all in good fun. I deal with it every day. But with the World Series, tonight every news channel was airing parts of the show from Boston and they all started trying to immitate the way we speak. They are totally overdoing the whole thing.

Now Mom would say to me Judy immitation is the best form of flattery. And she would be right to a point.

But there also a point when things become obnoxious and right now that is the way I feel. I think that poking fun is not flattery and ignorant, especially in light of the fact that they can't even get it right and are slaughtering in their attempts to use the Boston cut accent. Have you ever heard a cowboy with a drawl try to speak Boston? aiy yi yi. Even Mike can't get it right after all these years with me. Enough already, just leave it alone and get on with the game. There are so many beautiful sites, great foods and history in the City of Boston they could show and share. Instead they are all trying to be Jay Lenno. arrrrrrggggggg

Cowboys in the city eghhhhaaaaaadddddds.

OK I feel better now. They are just idiots!

Hi Judy, sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, until the World Series is over, you will probably hear this more and more from the TV folks. Its sad really. Doesn't excuse it, just makes us more annoyed when people in the media exaggerate and just show how ignorant they are or can be!

If you have the chance, write to the station or e-mail the correspondant and educate them on the errors of their ways. At the very least, they may acknowledge you but hopefully they will do it on air.

By the way, I hope there isn't any in-home rivalries between you and Mike with these two teams! When something like this happened in NFL football between my husband and myself, we didn't speak for 24 hours over something stupid one of us said to the other!!!! It was all in good team spirit, but not in good 'couple spirit'....we're long over it by now, but that was a tense time! LOL

Take care!

Michelle Mike and I went through this with Football a year or so ago and he lays it on thick. And then when I have had enough I send him to his corner and he knows by the look, I've had enough! :grin I'm a good sport but sometimes people just don't know that kidding in good fun has an expiration point. So while Mike and I kid back and forth more him than me, when I say OK enough..........he knows I mean it and he also knows he doesn't want that Irish/Yankee to come out of me very often. :lol :lol But yes things have been to the point of tense which is as you said not good couple spirit!

These pin heads on TV don't have a clue. Mike is watching NCIS and the local news came on and did a sound bite about the upcoming news.

"Find out at ten how the southern California fires are affecting the on -scene taping of your favorite television programs such as NCIS."

I just about threw a hissy. There are 350,000 homes and over 1 million people evacuated from their homes, HOw many have already lost everything? How many wonder what they have to go back to? How many lives will be lost? What are those firefighters going through? I know I was one for ten years and this just irritates me to death that we need to talk about not being able to tape TV shows. Where are our priorities? arrrrrrrgggggggg

You know I was kinda feeling bad for rooting for the Red Sox who I have watched since I was 4 years old and sitting on my father's knee. People here say hey it is our turn. And the Rockies have done remarkable things in the last months and do deserve to be where they are I can't take that away from them. These pin heads though are causing me to have no mercy on the Rockies now! Let the best team win! ha ha ha

And you are right I will call the local news. Each week they allow you to call in your comments.....well I will. :grin

part of the problem with the fake accents is that they sound more like Woonsocketers or Southies, not 'Boston proper' accents.

Rem Dawg is the worst.

Have you listened to a Boston station to see what they are saying about the Rockies? I know it is hard to deal with - when it is your area - but they all do it.

Good luck and may the best team win - they always do!

Not into baseball, may the best team win,as for accents,I think they are lovely, love to listen to them, and hear them, all the different dialects, its like a language unto itself, remarkable, people shouldnt make fun,I found it amusing when we moved here they said I had a accent, people from the midwest sound normal to me,but they said my a"s sounded funny and long and I didnt know how to say words like milk right, too funny!

Donna - I have been watching the Boston news and so far have not seen them make fun of the Rockies. If anything they are complimentary about the team's success this year.

Fake accents whether on the news or in the movies are awful.

Judy - your experience shows how divided our country is and over stupid things like this. Call the station and say something. I would think that there would be better things to report on than accents and tv show tapings.

Hucc - Rem Dawg is the worst. I can't listen the commentary when I have the game on without yelling at the tv to shut him up. :wave

I would not worry about them making fun of the way you guys talk. The improtant thing is that right now you guys are talking with BOOMING BATS and AWSOME PITCHING. Let them try and make fun of that!!

Funny thing is that the majority of people I've run across in my 20 years of living in the Boston area do not have "the" accent.

Judy, I applaud your idea of calling the station. While you're at it, add our fine medical and educational institutions to the list.

(Go Celtics!)
