What comedy or chick flick type of movie do you suggest for viewing tonight. I'd like to go buy a couple of movies for tonight, something just funny or happy. What do you suggest?

Thanks Dusky. We have two DVD players and very few movies. I need to start building up the library. I'll take a look for some of these on my lunch hour.

Judy, I just rented 'Wild Hogs' the other night, and that was pretty funny. Travolta was good in it. $19 at Walmart
Not sure if you like Will Ferrell or not but 'Old School' is one of the funiest movies I've ever seen. $9 at Walmart
Another good movie not too many people have seen (not a comedy) is 'Mystic River' with Sean Penn. $19 at Walmart

A cute British one......Keeping Mum...with Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Kristen Scott..(the one from English Patient), Maggie Smith..and oddly, Patrick Swayze. Nothing earthshattering but cute funny with a little black twisted humour.

If you haven't seen it yet, I still think one of my older favs with Gwyneth Paltrow was "Sliding Doors"...satisfies the chick flick with enough humour and mystery to keep a man watching!

More masculine but I liked more than I thought I would, "the Shooter"..I'm not big on the more 'modern comedies' like "Knocked up"...I get to tsk tsk in them and cringe!

You might also check out video rental stores - they sometimes sell used DVD's very cheap.

The best chick flick is "The Notebook".

A very excellent movie sadly an unknown is Second Hand Lions. It is by far one of the best I've seen. Don't know if you can find it or not. It's an oldie.

My all time favorite movie to watch on New Years Eve is When Harry Met Sally. I never get tired of watching it and the ending takes place on New Years Eve.

Great suggestions! I love Sliding Doors too - lots of great quotable lines. Do you like Monty Python movies? Can't go wrong with The Holy Grail.

Chick flicks that I have enjoyed - The Notebook, Pride and Prejudice, Vanity Fair, The Princess Bride, Notting Hill or Love Actually, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle (or An Affair to Remember-this one even involves a transatlantic crossing), Message in a Bottle, For Love of the Game.

Comedies - Old School, A Fish Called Wanda, Austin Powers, any Monty Python movie, The Big Lebowski.

Have a great movie watching night whatever you choose!

I shouldn't have started this, good movies keep popping into my head and I could list them all night. I prefer comedies to any other kind of genre, and even if I do watch action or adventure or mystery, it is usuall because they have funny moments. I will not see something like Thelma and Louise, I want to watch a movie to get away, not get depressed. And I don't watch R or adult movies.

One movie I never get tired of watching is Sleepless in Seattle.
Princess Bride, Airplane, are also on my top list.

A movie I loved that got rather bad reviews was Oscar with Sylvester Stallone. A real old-time farce.

Noises Off was fantastic.

I can watch Singin' in the Rain and 7 Brides for 7 Brothers over and over also.

OK, not a chick flick and a seemingly odd choice is the X Men trilogy. The third one was just Ok, too violent, but I loved the first two.

Just realized these are all older movies, have not seen too many newer ones that I liked. Oops, forgot the name of it, but the movie about Beatrix Potter starring Renee Zelleweger was just wonderful. One newer movie I enjoyed was Night at the Museum.

OK, enough!

Thanks everyone. I guess I will make a run in the morning for a few. Tonight the winds are so terrible it was all I could do to keep my car on the road and the roads in areas were snow frozen and it was whiteout conditions. So I didn't stop tonight but will take a leisurely ride out tomorrow morning. Thanks once again!
