Great question. We are going on the Amsterdam in a couple of weeks and have one person in our group who weighs 260.

Do they have weight limits on other tours such as helicopters and float planes? We had not thought of weight restrictions on tours.

Yes they DO have weight limits, at least on the helicoptor tours! Depending on the limits, you might have to pay 1-1/2 fare for the one heavy person.

You should probably call your cruise line (or tour operator) to see if your friend/spouse will fit!

On helicopters they go by weight and they will charge extra for people over 250 and ride with one less in the helicopter. As far as kayaking goes I did the kayak tour in Ketchikan in 2001 and I weighed 265 at the time. The only problem I had in the kayak is that I have long legs and have bad knees so it was uncomfortable for my legs. I fit in the kayak fine and was able to move around fine. We had a great time.

I am looking at the shore excursions book that HAL sent with the docs. The only mention of weight is if you're a child, you must weigh at least 40 lbs. I would think your husband would have to be fit, because of the rowing for 1 1/2 - 2 hrs (geez, I get exhausted just thinking about that!)
In Juneau, the flightseeing tour says that anyone weighing over 250 lbs will be charged a surcharge. I would imagine that there might be a seatbelt extension provided, which could prove to be embarrassing, depending on the person's attitude toward this.
Hope that helps. If you need more info that's not posted online (re: excursions) let me know.

I don't know about the kayaks in Alaska...last year I did ocean kayaking in Mazatlan and no one ever even asked the question...for the record...I weigh in the 215-225 range, but during a cruise with all that food, who knows...

Just want to let you know ( I'm sure most of you are aware) that it is important to be honest when stating your weight for the flight seeing tours( whether small plane or helicopter) it is a saftey issue and the pilot does calculate how much wieght uses how much fuel etc.. It's really not done to embarrass anyone.
