If you remove the auto tipping, the employees are required to pool their tips anyway.  If you leave on the auto tipping and tip extra, the employee gets to keep the extra.  So, removing the tip because you want to give the money directly in the amount you want to give does not guarantee that person will keep that amount.  When you tip the extra amount in an envelope, the employee writes your cabin number on the envelope.  Then, it is checked to see if auto tipping is still in place.  If it is, then the employee keeps the money in the envelope themselves.  If the auto tipping is removed, the employee turns over the envelope to be pooled.


Removing auto tipping is only good if you are dissatisfied with the service and/or want to tip less than recommended.
