Planning first cruise/tour to Alaska this summer; will depart on the cruise from Vancouver, and complete the tour in Fairbanks. Do I have to buy one way air fares from my home city to Vancouver and back home from Fairbanks, or are there ways around this? Thanks much.

What you are talking about is called an open jaw air booking. That is one of the drawbacks to booking air for an Alaskan cruise when you only go one way. It can cost more than booking a straight out roundtrip. I would suggest checking internet and airline sites for airfare as well as some TA's than see how they compare to the cruiseline airfare. You may get cheaper through the cruise line even if you have to do an air deviation to get better flight times.

You may find cheaper on your own but in this case it may be cheaper through the cruise line.

go to travelocity and expedia and price out some flights.

Also, since YOU are booking the flight, you would be well advised on getting in a day early, just in case.

I agree with PEB..cruise air is often cheaper when you are doing an "open jawed" itinerary.

We're doing southbound trip, arriving Anchorage, departing Vancouver in May. Best rates we could get were through the cruiseline. Laurie
