I'm not on the real maiden voyage in Europe, but we are booked on the first cruise out of FLL on 12/7, so am going to call that the maiden US voyage. Hopefully the Captain will be able to find St. Maarten!

We are pricing both the November Transatlantic and the one right before that (if we can swing a back-to-back) but don't know when the Maiden is scheduled for now with the delay.

I still don't have a brochure (pony express) but I've looked up the staterooms on the Cruiserooms site, but can't tell about the important things, like - is there a cover and is it private! We are looking at a balcony on the stern - but don't want one unless it is private.

Last fall we were on the Golden Princess and had to really research to be sure we had a cover. The way they are terracing the new ships, this can be an issue for some of us.

I have read stuff about the Zuiderdam as they are supposed to be sister ships, but still have no clue. Do you have any information that might help me?

Frustrated in Texas,
Brahmama

Oosterdam and Zuiderdam's stern cabins do not have private verandas. They are tiered and as the decks rise, all decks above can see onto the decks below. There may be a small section closest to the cabin entry door that is private but for the most part, when I stood at the stern from the back pool on ZUDM and looked down, I could see every veranda below.

Thanks - just exactly what I need to know.

The other cabin is a B categorry 4001 - and it's far aft but it is on the side. Are these cabins covered? My husband has a skin condition that makes it wise for him to stay out of the sun. And it is nice to be able to dash out 1st thing in the AM with your robe on and know you're not providing a show for early risers above you!

I have learned a lot already from this board. I browsed around for an hour or so after I posted (I probably should have read *before* I posted, but then...) and had never even heard of the promo numbers so now I'll certainly have a lot to keep me busy. I want a nice cabin and don't mind paying extra for it but really hate to find out that I could have booked the identical cabin for considerably less money. After all, the more money we save, the more trips we can take!

Thanks again for your comments, and I think I'll go read somemore posts and learn some more goodies.

I just checked the deck plan and cabin 4001 is as far FORWARD as you can go....it isn't aft. It isn't easy to be sure from the deck plan, but it looks like the curve of the bow cuts into the veranda at it's furthest forward edge and that veranda looks smaller than the one next to it and all of the others. If there is another available, I would suggest not taking a chance on getting a smaller veranda than all the others in the same category.

Just a suggestion......

Yup - I just took another look and I was indeed topsy-turvy. And you are right again about the veranda - so i think I am back at square one. And I do think I will check the Promos to see if there is anything about the 11/19 sailing. I do appreciate your knowledge and your helpfulness.

Carol - We are Dick & Anne -From LOngmont, Colorado. WE're on the same B2Bs on the Oosterdam! Our cabin - a bb - is amidships at a curve. AS it is a crossing- you might want to look more amidships for better stablization. Our last crossing from Portugal had some really rough weather as we dropped south and headed west - We do LOVE the transAtlantics! Anne :daisy:usa:CO

Brahmama, the aft cabins on the Navigation Deck are completely covered. Check out my photo gallery of the Zuiderdam. There are some good shots taken from our aft balcony on Navigation Deck.

yes my cousin and I are going to be on the maiden voyage. We can't wait. We are still trying to decide on St Petersburg tours. Should we try private or just go with the shore excursions offered. Do you ahve any suggestions?
