We did that same cruise last Nov - You're gonna love it! Best cruise so far! Ship and crew were great. Cruised both lines, I think the food & service on Princess far exceeds that of RCCL. Ports were diverse- Some had Caribbean flair while others had Latin flair. Seeing the workings of the Canal itself was amazing . YA GOTTA GO!!!

We went to the Panama Canal the past two years in a row - once on the Coral Princess and once on RCCL's Splendour of the Seas. Coral is a great ship with fine service. You will be well satisfied. Entertainment is on a par with RCCL as are the excursion options for Panama. The only area where we think RCCL excelled over Princess was for shipboard activities. Princess does this okay but RCCL did better in our opinion. RCCL's food was equal to Princess although the dining room service was definitely better on RCCL. Princess is squeezing the staff a bit too tightly and it shows.

We also went on the Coral Princess but did the repositioning tour from San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale. It was the best. We did the entire crossing from one end to the other. It was a 14 day trip.

If you are fascinated by history, exploration, engineering, and culture, you will love the Panama canal trip. It's an all day trip, but we were never bored. I enjoyed watching as our huge ship "shrank" as a container ship rose in the lock next to us and then watching us "grow" as the container ship was lowered in its lock. Cruising the Gatun Lake was mesmerizing as was sailing beneath the Bridge of the Americas--another reducing experience for our ship. The only think I wished I'd done was more advance reading to better understand and appreciate the experience. Needless to say, I hit the books at the earliest opportunity. As for line comparisions--we've sailed both and loved both.
